MaxiGallery and FancyBox (still one issue)

    well, they are clickable...but no FancyBox IE6 WinXp

        ...it’s also not working on IE7, FF2 & 3 is fine though

        IEs say there’s an error on that page, dunno what kind of?!

          just to see what happens, this script has an effect on both IEs no, sorry, just IE6

            This is a puzzle for sure.

            I am not sure if its just me looking at IE6 via VMWare but there is strange behavior with the top nav as well. The background graphic that runs behind the nav across the page gets doubled in height somehow. Also, the content box below the top nav is shifted to the right by 20 pixels or so. The CSS I built has everything wrapped in a wrapper that is 900 pixels wide. Both the navbar and the content box are also set to 900 pixels wide.

            But I doubt this has anything to do with the Fancybox not working in IE though. The script does work on the author’s page here:http://fancy.klade.lv/

              it’s an png, so the unitpng script could have an effect on this, those png fixes change the position of elements sometimes and might trigger odd effects on links. i think the unitpng-fix scans the whole document for pngs and applies the script...so every png will be effected. instead you could also try this new png-fix script -> http://www.dillerdesign.com/experiment/DD_belatedPNG/#release0.0.6a
              nonetheless i would avoid having more than one png-fix script on a website

                Well, after some down time (suddenly having to fly off to confront a family health crisis) I had some time to fiddle with this site some more.

                I think I got it working in IE finally. Long story short I changed some of thee graphics from PNG files to Gifs, changed some of the CSS, and experimented with the oder of presenting the main jquery script, the PNGfix script, and the Fancybox script. I think its now OK in IE7 and IE6.

                Some of the issues were a puzzle. Especially with IE6 (of course): the use of PNG files in the repeating body element were expanding somehow. Removing the javascript fixed that but I needed the effect. Swapping to Gifs took care of that problem. I also had dueling PNG fixes. I am now using just one and got rid of the Fancybox PNG fix. My content container was also moving over to the right in IE6 for some silly reason. In the end I resorted to a one line CSS * hack and that seemed to fix it.

                The gallery script works but the drop shadows are real ugly in IE6. I may have to customize the CSS just for IE6 here. But I am in better shape now.

                I have learned a ton during this process but have waisted some serious time on this. I wonder how many zillion hours web designers have collectively spent tracking down puzzling Internet Explorer issues?

                The other thing I did was mess with the Photoshop nav_sprite file. I dropped the hover text by one pixel in each of the nav links. That combined with the jquery slow motion effect really makes it seem like the button is being pressed. Its subtle but changing the Photoshop file really does make a difference.

                There is one Safari issue: using the Fancybox overlay forces an unwanted horizontal scroll bar. Not much I can do about this as it seems like a Fancybox bug. So for now I have the overlay turned off. I would like it turned on though...

                    That’s awesome!

                    I don’t remember the guy’s name but I remember reading a blog written by one of the big name elder statesmen of the CSS world. Usually very correct with his speach his utter frustration boiled over one day when IE was messing up the CSS on a form he was working on. I think his words were something like "die you f$#*&^@ browser die!!!" He had my sympothy but it was funny to see this form of expression on the screen...
