...you have to set it to true

overlayShow: If true, shows the overlay (false by default)

Thanks, yes I was just trying that and it works. I see you can also change the overlayOpacity value from 0 to 1 (like .4) The default opacity here is less than some of the other "box" scripts I have seen, but I like it.

I think having the rest of the page go darker helps focus your attention on the gallery more cleanly...

yeah, i like the fancybox as well, haven’t used it yet though. it’s a welcome change to the usual standard lightbox.
the slightly lighter overlay is nice.
...another great lightbox i found, and recommend is shadowbox, it’s very versatile: http://www.mjijackson.com/shadowbox/
it’s 20$ for a commercial licence which is fair enough.

I considered that box as well. I tried a bunch of them. I used the basic Lightbox script for this site: http://gildasclubseattlefashionshow.com/index.html and it works OK. This site only has a home page and a gallery page. I did all the fashion show photography and web design for free. All the participants are dealing with cancer one way or another. Gilda’s Club (as in Saturday Night Live’s Gilda Radner) is a very cool organization...

But getting back to Fancybox: I like how clean it looks. It has some Apple Mac touches which appeals to me. I also like the brief closing animation when you click the upper close box in the gallery display.

Some of these "boxes" have that resizing feature. I guess this can be a cool time saver. But to my eye photos that are resized with a server script often look a little funky to me. I prefer to resize my images to the exact size I want with Photoshop.

OK, I found issue after adding the ’overlayShow’:true value into the template. Activating the gallery will force a horizontal scroll bar to apear in Safari? Not so with Firefox 3 though... I also checked the site running on my Mac (VMWare, XP and IE6) and the gallery does not work at all? The thumbnails are not "hot". Not sure if there is the same problem with IE7? (no way for me to test that now.) Works fine in Opera...

???

ups, you’re right. they are not clickable on IE6/7, WinXp. FF2 works fine. Maybe read the comments on the scripts author’s website, could be a known problem. Perhaps there’s also a link to a support forum? You could try to deactivate the PNG-fix script, just to see if this could cause the trouble, sometimes the PNG-fix scripts make links unclickable...

i know these frustrating discoveries just too good, when you think everythings up and running and you thought you could stop working...you just want to have one look on the site before you shut down the computer, you get THAT nice little present.

btw. shadowbox also got the option Clipped (no resizing)

I removed the overlay value from the template and that fixed the Safari issue. Maybe the overlay triggers some bug in Safari?

But the script does not work again in IE. The thumbs are now hot but clicking them just takes you to the full size image on a fresh page? I have no idea why this happens? IE6 shows an error on the thumbnails page: "Line 63, Char:17, Error: Expected identifier, string or number, CO:0,..."

Its just one of the hundreds of frustrating moments I have struggled through with IE...

I think I might have clashing PNG fixes?

The overall template I am using has a PNG fix so that the graphic on top of the sidebar will display.

The seperate template for the gallery thumbs page with the Fancybox script uses its own PNG fix.

I wonder if I need to remove the PNG fix from the Fancybox setup?

it’s not working at all, after you removed the overlay?
probably you have to clear the ModX-cache.
...It could be quite possible that this error is due to the png-fixes. remove the unitpng-fix, clear the ModX-cache and see what happens, if it’s working, you can see if you can use the FancyBox Png-fix for your other pngs as well.

Can someone check the gallery in IE7 for me?

I cleared the MODx cache and the gallery still does not work in IE6 (via VMWare...)
