Dropshadows

Hi, as I understand dropshadows is good only at white background because on other colors it gives my pictures white border. Are there any solution to make them transperant?

I think Maxigallery uses tiny pictures with a grey to white gradient to create the dropshadow effect. The best option would be to recreate these pictures yourself with the right background colour. Or use transparent png-24 pictures, these will look great on any background. Unfortunately they look very ugly on Internet Explorer 6 (and lower), because IE6 doesn’t support alpha channel transparency >:(

True, it will look nasty in IE6 and earlier, but you can check this link to fix that

Got the plugin installed, but cannot understand what

Plugin configuration:

&spacer=PNG Spacer Path;string;assets/images &sm=Size Method;list;Scale,Crop,Image;Image

means.

PNG border images are in right place, they are transparent, but still I see ugly white border in MSIE7 and Firefox

That code breaks down to "variable name is ’spacer’, lable is ’PNG Spacer Path’, data type is ’string’, value is ’assets/images’. This simply sets the path to the png spacer image file.

The other one sets up a drop-down menu (data type ’list’) with ’scale’, ’crop’ and ’image’ as the options, and the default set to ’image’.

The border issue sounds more like a CSS issue.

If you turn on drop shadows, I think you need to set &pic_shadow_bgcolor to the page’s background color. (the default is FFFFFF).

&big_shadow_bgcolor and &thumb_shadow_bgcolor may need to be set as well depending on what you show.

Remember that whenr you change most things in MG, you have to reupload the pics for it to have any effect.

Dont know wazzup with the dropshadows.... just repainted the background in photoshop for those templates... Thx anyway

Yeah.. like BobRay already said above, you can use the &pic_shadow_bgcolor (&thumb_ for thumbnails and &big_ for big images) parameters to control the color of the shadow background. Eg. put it to the one that is your page bg color.

Or sometimes this is not suitable, for example when you have a black background you may want to change the whole dropshadow color to something else. So you can also do what you did and replace the default dropshadow images with another ones, or create a new ones to another path and use the &pic_shadow_path parameter to define a path to the dropshadow images.

thx! But altogether is interesting why these PNGs although are transparent in image editor but don’t work as it should in web. Just my inquisitiveness

Because the shadow images are attached to the image files itself during upload and the image is saved in a format that does not support transparency. IE the thumbnail class that MaxiGallery uses do not offer transparency support.
