ok, got the child galleries down. here’s the 10 step process
1. Create a folder - "My Gallery"
2. Check Published and Uncheck "Cachable" on the Page Settings Tab
3. Put the snippet call [!MaxiGallery?display=childgalleries!] in the document content area
4. Save
5. Create a document in the folder - "Gallery 1"
6. Check Published and Uncheck "Cachable" on the Page Settings Tab
7. Put the snippet call [[MaxiGallery? &display=`embedded` &embedtype=`slidebox` &pics_in_a_row=`3` &max_thumb_size=`110` &max_pic_size=`0` &thumb_use_dropshadow=`1`]] (or another call) in the document content area
8. Save
9. Repeat steps 5-8 for as many galleries as you need
10. Go to the galleries and uplaod the photos for that gallery!
Super easy after you know the process. Now it’s time to play around with the style and parameters.
Reminder:
You have to choose the parameters in your snippet call carefully because during upload the images and thumbnails will be resized accordingly... if you change them afterwards you’ll have to discard from the folder and upload them again.
So fool around with a few images first before starting massive uploads

If lightbox or slidebox isn’t working, make sure that you call the snippet cached [[ ]] in a document that is set to be not cacheable (this is covered in the install instructions) and don’t click the images before the page has fully loaded.
EDIT: Fixed typo, thanks sottwell. Also as a note, you could try
this to fix issues with lightbox / javascript registering. I think those fixes are not in 0.9.2.1, but some fixing has been done to it. But first, make sure if you have problems with the scripts not coming to your html source or something else. When lightbox/slidebox is enabled, you should see some javascript includes at the top of your html source..

er... I think you meant "call the snippet cached [[ ]]".
goatlip, you are the man. I’ve been screwing around with this snippet for a while trying to get child galleries to work and bam! You just lay it out there. I works. I could have sworn I tried this very same thing and it didn’t work. Whatever. It now works and it is fantastic.

Please, am sorry if am taking u back but where do you create the gallery and Gallery1folders? In the modx Manager? How does one do that? I am guessing if its created in the manager,then the page to host the snippet would be in the folder? I am confused here. Please help
If you’re unable to locate the document tree in the Modx manager... I would start with something easier than MaxiGallery, how about making a document for instance?
Then try something bold: a document using... a snippet!
After that goatlip’s ten step process should make sense...

The terminology is confusing. A "folder" in this case means a document acting as a container, created in Manager. In the newer releases they are referred to as "containers" to avoid confusion with file system folders/directories.
It’s even more confusing since to install MaxiGallery you need to create a folder/directory in the file system at assets/galleries!
but I’m starting to get frustrated with getting everything to work correctly. I’ve also search and read through the MaxiGallery forums to no avail. Is there a tutorial for people just starting out with ModX and MaxiGallery. That would be incredibly helpful. If there’s not, I’m interested in how to set up child galleries and giving descriptions to galleries.
