Hey all, back for the attack, I was able to run a CMS pre-install of another application loaded into the application vault of a Plesk web admin panel, on a new Windows host. I gave up on the old crappie host.
What would be required to talk them into loading modX into the application vault?
I suppose the host would know how to load stuff into the application vault.
Anybody have any experience with the plesk application vault and modX?
The other CMS that took right off was mambo, I’ll probably toy around with it, just to learn what it is firsthand that makes modX better.

I’m not trying to turn this thread into a "who has the best host" conversation, or into an advertisement. But I’ve found www.1and1.com to have a great price/value ratio.

They don’t preinstall MODx for you, but I’ve not had any trouble getting it to run. The cheapest package they offer is just $3.99/month.

The folks at eto used to run at 1and1 and they’ll never go back, FYI. Not a pleasant experience from what I understand.

Really? I’d be currious to know why. And what are they using now?

I’ll start an off topic thread to discuss this kind of subject here:

So are you saying the company is one and the same? Is that a bad thing? How about we move the conversation here:

I am currently using SiteGround - the original subject of this thread - for about 20 sites. I have been through about a dozen web hosts over the years. I am very happy with their service. And yep, I have MODx running nicely. They’re very on top of keeping their system running efficiently. I’ve seen them move my site between servers twice with no downtime or interruption in my workflow. From time to time someone will come along and abuse the shared hosting environment, but they are very fast at detecting and resolving this.
I won’t go into any more detail.. suffice it to say that as far as my needs go for a shared host, they’re everything I need and more.
Here’s my shameless affiliate link - http://www.siteground.com/index.htm?referrerid=10263 . I wouldn’t include this link if I didn’t think it was of value to people because I take my fledgeling membership in the MODx community seriously.

Now, for anything that is mission-critical or even what I would call "business critical", or for any sites where you expect great deals of traffic (don’t ask me to quantify that - I’m sure you can decide what sites can live in a shared environment and what can’t) - I have also had a good experience with Dedicated Virtual servers from Media Temple.

Thanks everyone for the other suggestions here.

I couldn’t find MODx as one of the listed services in the SiteGround packages? Where would information on that be?

I’m now offering space on my superfast "Blade" dedicated server. I only have one website hosted on it at the moment... MINE! which doesn’t receive masses of traffic.

So if you’re intrested in hosting your website on my server at a very resonable price of £55 (about $105) a year then get in contact via my website http://www.vitalized.co.uk/web-design-development/modx-web-hosting.htm
You’ll also find a few more details on what you get.

I’ll pre-install MODx for you as well

Err...when it comes to hosting providers, one motto I’ve always found to be true is this:

"If it sounds too good to be true...then it probably is."

Definitely cool that a hosting provider is offering a MODx installation.  But 12 gigs and 500 gigs of bandwidth a month?  Umm...I doubt it.  They probably oversell the hell out of the space on their servers if that’s the case.

Actually, in this day of hosting price wars, I’d believe it.  Though some companies definitely over sell.  I’ve got one site I run on 1and1s $5 a month plan with 50 gigs of disk, 500 gigs of bandwidth.  It runs Vbulletin, gets 300,000 page views a month and even had 67 active users online at once.  Very little slow down.  You’d be surprised the deals you can get out there - the big names for sure - because Godaddy, Yahoo, and 1and1 are in a pricing war.

Though they don’t offer Modx preinstalled. Just speaking in general terms about whether that offer is too good to be true... maybe from that host, but there are others with similar pricing/plans that are not.
