You’ll need an .htaccess file in every non-MODx folder turning the rewrite engine off; exactly like in the Manager folder.

It won’t work if you install several application using mod_rewrite. Mostly because the way how it does, apache will send all request to specific file, which in modx case, it will be send to index.php, and later this index.php will do the heavy lifting job in parsing the request alias and outputing the right content.

I don’t know about oscommerce, but SMF does have friendly alias path ability as well, which means that it won’t work if you turn on sef on both modx and smf.
After reading your question, it seems that you have SMF and osCommerce installed as subdir on the root dir of MODx, is that coorect?
Then it’s suppose to be no problem if you access it using rooturl.com/smf or rooturl.com/oscommerce

Correct me if I’m miss interpreting your question.

I believe that it is possible, with some complex rewrite rules:

                Hi Wendy

you are correct in your asumption on the sub folders

It DOES allow me to access /catalog and /smf

however it WONT allow me to connect to /catalog/admin or /admin ... wierdly

                however

as an aside .. smf is working perfectly .. its just getting to certain subfolders in the root

for instance .. i have an admin folder .. inside which there is just a basic HTML page with links to smf admin / oscommerce admin and modx admin (just to make things easier for my client) i cant get into it however!

                      thnx zi

its not about how oscommerce works tho .. seems to be just accessing sub folders that is the prob ive tried accetppath on and rewiteengine off .. niether seem to work

                      RIGHT!

ive narrowed the problem down ...
by creating a folder called TEST with NO .HTACCESS file in it .. i can access the folder .. the problem seems to be in folders that have a password protect stylee htaccess file in them .. ie oscommerce admin folder and my own admin folder!

wierd .. and work arounds anyone ?
