Being quite new around here, tried to install a contact form on our site. eForm seems the best way to go...but could not find it in the Repository / "Resources" section.

Reading this thread did not made me clear what version and how to exactly install. Is there a Resource entry that I’ve been missing? How to jump start with eForm?

Between eForm’s updates and eFormParser and its updates, which is a really nice mod, it is getting difficult to know where everything you need is.

First you need eForm, which you can get from this post http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2122.msg34495.html#msg34495. If you like, you can stop here and just use eForm in its original state.

If you want to use the eFormParser mod, you need the original eFormParser, which you can get here http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2122.msg35581.html#msg35581. It contains the hacked version of eform.inc.php and the original eformparser.inc.php file; you upload both of these files to your assets/snippets/eform folder. It uses the same snippet as the original.

Then you need to get the update to the eFormParse.inc.php file, which you can get here http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,7196.msg50585.html#msg50585.

An introduction to the eFormParser mod is here http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2122.msg35514.html#msg35514

I’m writing a step-by-step tutorial on using it to create a basic contact form, with a download of the files needed here http://www.sottwell.com/create-form.html, but I don’t know what the offial plans are.

Very nice article susan. Many thanks for the head start.

I’m planning on kick starting the next phase of eForm in Q4. This year has been an extremely rough one but things will all work out in the end. If there’s anyone who would like to to join in the developement of the next phase can drop me a PM. I would like to break up version 2.0 development into connectible components so that it would be much easier for multiple persons to work on sections the eForm core within a given time.

Anyone would like to join the development of eFrom 2.0? If you want I can do up a quick project plan and get things kick started.

I think we should go ahead and get the eform in it’s current incarnation into the repository (with the parser that is). Toby want to do it since you’re the esteemed parser-author and Raymond seems to be a bit pressed for time?

I totally agree. eForm is too useful not to be in the Repository. I was just editing some forms that I made in the days before eForm, and it was a pain in the keister!

The tutorial will be a big help also!

Semi-related P.S. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the length of the lines that you send via PHP’s mail() function? I was finding that some of my HTML email was arriving with garbage characters in the middle and missing chunks. I added line breaks every so often (previously it had none, and they were long form emails), and the problem went away.

Ok, I’ll add something to the repository. It will probably be a slightly enhanced version of what we have here. (I’d been discussing that with Raymond earlier). Give me a few days though. I’ll need to add some extra comments and explanatins and I’m rather pressed for time with payed work just now.

I’ll post something here when it’s done.

Some mail servers require that each line break ends with \r\n
