I think freenode has been having a few performance related issues recently.

Saying that, I’ve never had a problem connecting on my laptop but then again, it’s the complete opposite on my desktop. Same settings on my desktop as I have on my laptop and nada! no go!

But, I spend most of my time on my laptop so doesn’t cause me too much concern ... just a strange problem really.

                Thanks guys smiley

I wonder if it’s not (again) a nick conflict, because lately I just can’t connect to the server and it’s the same computer with the same settings that worked before...

It’s frustrating, not being able to chat !
                I’ll dig an report...

                  From my log at freenode:

                  ------------------- Day changed to 04/14/06 -------------------
02:03 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. We’re experiencing serious problems
with connectivity to our European hub. Investigating now.
02:12 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. We momentarily lost our connection
between our European and US hubs. We’re told there are reports of ssh and http connection problems, so this may have
been a large backbone glitch. If you have any information, please let us know; we’re looking into it.
02:12 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Everything seems back to normal. Thanks for
your patience, and thank you for using freenode!
02:19 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. Looking at
http://www.internetpulse.net/ (internet pulse), it does look as if there were fairly widespread problems. So far
things seem to be stable. Thanks again for your patience, and for using freenode!

Also there was an issue on freenode week ago or so, that they got hacked and flooded by bots. They disabled all new connections for a short time and then when they got the hacking issue resolved, they started to allow new connections periodically.. These two issues may explain the problems that you guys have had..

05:40 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. We’re currently experiencing
annoyancebot problems in a variety of different channels. You may want to consider temporarily using channel mode +R
(only identified users can voice) for the time being.... sorry for the difficulties.
08:37 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. Once again, we’re still having
problems with a kiddie attacking channels. You should definitely consider setting your channel to +R for now, if at
all possible, until the problem is resolved. Apologies for the inconvenience.
08:49 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. We’re currently having problems with
trollbots on a number of channels, and as a result many channels are temporarily set to +R. If you can’t talk on such
a channel, please register with nickserv --- /msg nickserv help register .

                      for using freenode!
09:12 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi all. You may want to consider reverting
from channel mode +R at this point, though if our problem person comes back, we’d advise using it again promptly, and
leaving it up for a while. Thanks to everyone involved for your patience!
09:31 [freenode] [notice(lilo!i=levin@freenode/staff/pdpc.levin)] [Global Notice] Hi folks. Our problem child is back. You’ll
probably want to use +R for a few more hours. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks.

BTW. How many of you have registered with nickserv? I have..
