I haven’t fixed it, just confirmed that it is indeed a bug.
Still thinking through some options on possible ways to implement this - but I am aiming to try and get a fix for this in time for 0.9.5 final. (unless anybody else is looking into this?)

Any news on this issue? I’m running 0.9.5 and get the same error when trying to upload jpgs. I have jpgs in the allowed file formats list and this happens only on non-admin users. Those users are allowed to work with documents, but not with snippets etc.
Any ideas?

I’m not aware of any manual that describes this; I’m just a nosy old biddy that is always clicking on things to see what is there!
Is there a way to restrict what characters are allowed in the uploadable file name?
Like if I wanted to only allow files with numbers and letters in their name, no special characters
Or wanted to disallow files with certain characters in them?
My apologies, For some reason i thought this thread was for the FileUpload snippet, please disregard my off-topic post!

Probably best to make a plugin, using one of the Parser Service events, OnFileManagerUpload.
No, it looks like this only fires after the file has been uploaded and moved. Check out the /manager/actions/files.dynamic.php file; you’ll need to add your regexp or something similar around line 178.
Ok thanks, i’ll check that out.
Thanks your solution sorted out my issue as well. It really ought to be put into some of the reference material as there are (if yo usearch via google anyway) more than a few people with this issue...
Thanks for being a nosy old biddie... You rock... (and coincidentally jsut saved me from another hours wasted efforts)
