Wendy, I’ve tried to download your latest document.parser.class.inc.php but winrar can’t open it (corrupted file) :’(

    You download it from here?
    http://svn.djamoer.net/?do=browse&project=MODx&path=/trunk/hacks/subsites/

You can browse through the repository and view the files one-by-one. smiley
Let me know if it’s still causing problem.

Out of curiosity I opened the MODx-snapshot.tar.bz2 file in a text editor and got this:

<b>Warning</b>: file_get_contents(cache/http%3A%2F%2Fsvn.djamoer.net%2Fmodx%2Ftrunk%2Fhacks%2Fsubsites%2Fmanager%2F0.tar.bz2): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in <b>/home/.gasman/djamoer/svn.djamoer.net/include/libsvn.php</b> on line <b>69</b>

Thanks for that. I’ll see what’s wrong with it, considering I’m not the one who code that SVN browsers wink

Wendy, I really want to get this in the next release... can you ping me soon and let’s make sure this happens? laugh

Actually, maybe I spoke a bit soon as this could potentially break things without adequate testing... what are your thoughts?

I definetely agree with that. I like the usage of this for hosting several moderate sites in one installation. But without further testing, this might cause further problem to v0.9.2 release. I do believe when a new features being added, it will always be a bug, even just a little.

So I think leaving it up to the community will be a great way to go. We can see the response on some users. But for now, even if we implement this, we can disable it during first installation, so it won’t affect the majority of users who are using it.
If you’re serious about this, I will do some adequate testing with the latest code that we have on SVN and tweak it for a more production usage. wink

What’s the status of this Subsites Hack is it functional or still in development, sounds like a great idea

                It’s still under progress.
Btw, it’s a hack, so it’s not recommended for our advanced designers. It’s meant for our advanced coders who are wanting to have this features and dare to test it and figuring out a bugs or a better way to implement it wink

Hi all, I must be doing something very wrong here. I’ve followed the instructions throughout this thread completely, and when that didn’t work I tried some variations.

Wendy, could you clear up a couple things for me?

One, when you say point the sub at the root are you talking about an htaccess redirect?
Two, is the process regarding aliases or any of it different when attempting to use an addon domain instead of a regular sub?
Three, Does this hack actually use the sub directory for anything, could it be a chmod issue?

I’d love to get this working but am a lil lost on it. huh

                  Thanks,
                  ---Indie

One, when you say point the sub at the root are you talking about an htaccess redirect?
Nope, you need to use virtualhost on linux (I think that’s what they call it). Basically when you setup a new domain to your hosting server, usually you can choose the root directory for that specific domain/subdomain, and most of the time this will be on a different folder from all the other domains/subdomains that you host. But if it’s allowed on your host, you can set the root folder path to use the same folder with your MODx installation. So if you have a MODx installation on /path/subfolder/modx/ for your domain.com, then you need to setup your subdomain.domain.com to use the same path for its root folder /path/subfolder/modx/. But most of of the time, some hosting companies doesn’t allowed you to define your own root path for your domain/subdomain. Contact your hosting provider for more info on this.

Two, is the process regarding aliases or any of it different when attempting to use an addon domain instead of a regular sub?
Everything will be the same, but the alias path will be different when you access the site using your subsite domain/subdomain. Basically if you have a virtual alias generated by MODx as this /path_for_subsite/home.htm, then this hack will remove that path_for_subsites path when you access it using your subsite domain/subdomain, but if you access it using the domain that you’re not setting up as a subsites, it will have that path. One more thing, this hack will prohibit any access outside the path given. So in the example above, you cannot access any folders/docs adjacent to path_for_subsite, but you can access that path itself and all its chil docs and folders.

Three, Does this hack actually use the sub directory for anything, could it be a chmod issue?
It doesn’t involve any subdir at all, so you don’t have to worry about it.

Download the one on http://svn.djamoer.net/?do=browse&project=MODx&path=/trunk/hacks/subsites/ for the latest working version that fix quite a few bugs and add a few small features on it.

                    Have fun

Okay, did a lil fiddling with it and spoke to my host. VERY easy answer to this for those without shell to make those changes. Instead of using an addon domain for the sub, simply park the domain on your main one. It’s working perfectly for me so far. grin

Thanks Wendy, for taking the time to answer in detail, and so quickly.

This is an incredible enhancement to an already great script, thanks!
