    I get all the way through my install and once I hit the close button the manager login comes up. I log in using the exact username and password I entered and it tells me I have the wrong username or password. I have even tried going into myPHPAdmin and deleting the password. I have even blown away the first install and the database and started over. Still the same problem. However, some good news, the initial index.php works fine, though I of course can not login from there.

    Information:
    Server type: Linux kernel-2.4.21-27
    PHP version: 4.3.11
    MySQL version: 4.1.14-standard
    MyPHPAdmin version: 2.6.14-pl2

    Client information:
    OS: Windows 2K Pro
    Browser: Firefox 1.0.4 and Explorer 6.0.2800.1106

    I am untarring the tarball and moving all the files into the root directory. I have made all the required files and directories 777. The install goes fine, the test of the database is fine and the original tables are created without a hitch, but for some reason I can’t login.

        This is the exact same problem I’m having. I too reinstalled MODx twice and tried to change the passwords in the database etc. etc.. I noticed that if I enter the wrong username or password, I get an error message telling me. If I enter the correct username and password, the login page simply reloads. I am trying to install on a Win2k server running IIS6, MySQL 4.0.26 and PHP 4.4.2. I was able to install on a FreeBSD server without a bit of trouble.

        Any ideas? I’m not sure how to check the session path....

            Can you folks provide a copy of or links to a phpinfo file for your server? This will tell us the value of the session_save_path. If the session_save_path is not set properly there, and cannot be configured for the server via php.ini, you can see a resolution here:

                  ... support team at www.m2-server.com helped me… they have created the php.ini file in the root folder of my webpage.

                  My login is working now…

                  Php.ini file attached (rename to .ini file)

                    I have the same problem, although my session.save_path seems to be correct. I have attached a text copy of my entire phpinfo() which will need to be renamed .html to view properly. I have also included a copy of my php.ini file, please note that the extra bits are to prevent a fatal error class pdo not found... message which I was getting (I found this answer elsewhere and do not know if it is the correct solution, but it stops the message).

                    session.save_path = ./
                    extension = pdo.so
                    extension = pdo_mysql.so

                    The manager seems to be partially working because if I input an incorrect username or password it gives me an error saying they had not been recognised. I’m stumped!

                    I’d really appreciate some help.

                      @churchill614

                      It seems you do not have pdo available this is a must for Revolution.

                      You could try Evolution as this does not require PDO.
