Just gone to log-in to Modx and I get the message

An administrator has enabled Captcha validation, so you’ll also need to enter the Security code. If you have trouble reading the code, click on the code itself to generate a new random code.

Guess I must have enabled this by mistake, anyway the image is only displayed as a broken link, even if I click on it. How can I get past the losin please?

You’ll have to go into your database (with phpMyAdmin or whatever client you use) and browse the system_settings table to find the setting_name "use_captcha", then edit the setting_value to be 0 instead of 1.

just curious, considering this is almost a year later, why does this issue still exist? (at least, when I attempted to use ModX a year ago, and then 6 months ago, and then right now, I’m still getting this error.)

This "issue" is totally dependent on your system’s configuration. By this I mean not just your MODx configuration, but also your server and PHP configuration. It can fail for any number of reasons, and it’s pretty much impossible to know why it’s failing on any given server. Personally, I’ve never had any trouble with it, on four different remote servers and my local Mac server, both with default Mac installation and MAMP.

Captcha needs GD and Freetype from your server to be enabled.. atleast.. Look at your phpinfo() to see if they are enabled. (create .php document on your server that has <?php phpinfo(); ?> as content and access it with your browser)

What do you mean "this error"? Have you tried to use MODx with Captcha off, given that your system hasn’t changed in the past year?
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

i’ve actually tried it on 3 different servers, all cpanel servers, each time hoping that ModX would meet my expectations, but little things such as the Captcha not working (it’s not just that, there’s been other issues in the past that have turned me away from it, tho this time i’m looking for a CMS that i can be lazy with). anyways, it just seems that you should have something to verify all needed dependencies are fulfilled before allowing certain features to be enabled, OR have a "backup plan"

modx does seem to be *extremely* beyond the likes of any Nuke CMS, Xoops, etc, so it surprises & disappoints me when something I expect to work, doesn’t.

I think because of the complexity and expansiveness of the system, I expect it to function as expected, whereas with a Nuke-type CMS, I’m not surprised when the system breaks or doesn’t work properly, because I know to expect lower quality coding.

I guess I feel like a parent that is disappointed in a child that they know should be able to do better when he gets a B instead of an A+ (while Nuke stays constant with it’s Cs and Ds)

Please keep in mind that this child is not quite 2, so we still have room to grow up wink

MODx is not (yet) a CMS that you can "be lazy with". Have you had Captcha working with any other CMS on the same setup, or do they recognise that your system can’t cope with it?
