Sorting Ditto ouputs by site visitor...

So I’ve got a document where I’m listing all the children documents using Ditto. When a visitor goes to this page though, I’m trying to figure out how to give them the ability to sort the info based on a price Template Variable. So a dropdown with something like:

I have a quick-and-dirty idea. Less slick than yours. You have 2 documents, each with a Ditto call, pointing to the same starting doc, but sorted differently. Only Page 1 is in your menu, so it’s the default. Somewhere on Page 1 you have a link that says "Sort by blah blah", and that links to Page 2. And on Page 2, you have a link back to Page 1 in a similar manner, "Sort by other blah blah", so they can easily do either one.

Lame, I suppose, but less code fiddling. Someone may have an easy way to do your slick idea.

Thanks for the input, but I got to say my head is swimming and I’m confused as to what direction to go. I set up Quill, but it’s not quite right since it brings in the child pages not the product categories. I checked out the other links you provided, but I’m not that experienced with MODx and am having a hard time visualizing how it all comes together. I was wondering if you could give me a shove in the right direction. Below is an overview of my situation:

Massage site includes very small ecommerce section that currently only holds 9 items and will probably never make it to 100. I’m using Ditto to bring in all the products on one page and would like to include a sort by category drop down menu. Quill is for more advanced setups where you want
relationships between resources.

Here is an example setup of resources:
Products (1)
---Product1
---Product2
---Product3

Categories (2)
---Category1 (55)
---Category2
---Category3

Listing Items (3)
---Item1
---Item2
---Item3

Assign Quill TV’s to your Items and choose from *product* and *category*
for each item.

Then in Ditto for resource/document (55): &parents=`3` &filter=`category,[*id*],1`
to exclude all items with a category TV value not equal to current resource.
Example: Visitor goes to Category1 page and only see listings of
items having category TV set to Category1...

Now right here in this example you can build up your empty item resources
with information called from other resources (e.g Products, Places, Authors) using GetField
snippet, TV’s with bindings etc. using the Quill values or Quill list mode.

So assign just one Category TV to Products, save values and change the Ditto call to &parents=`1` to filter your products
on resource 55. And go ahead delete Item resources and the Product TV... Now you don’t really need Quill here!
A select binding or M-M tag widget would do fine for the publisher.

Ditto supported Tags let you use the request extender (url-vars) to sort with.

results (tags as ID numbers) staying on the current document...
