New Wayfinder Tutorials

Sometimes its just best to walk away from the frustration. I am aware that I am turning this valuable thread into something else. I really don’t mind creating a new thread here.

I did some searching for page examples of basic up and down jQuery accordion menus. There are a lot of them if you look hard enough. Some use a ul & li structure and some do not. Many show really fancy examples with complex CSS and menu levels. While these are intriguing eye candy they are not that helpful when trying to figure out how they work.

Instead I tried to work with basic samples with a direct simple structure like:

Fruit:
apples
oranges
grapes
Veges:
carrots
squash
parsnips

I did examine the MODx wiki that pointed to the DynamicDrive scripts. Here the Jquery and the presentation seemed more complicated than other online examples I found.

I found this nice sample which has been referenced twice on the MODx forums:
http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/jquery-accordion-menu-redux/ These posts don’t give the full picture of how to make this work with Wayfinder though. I found Firebug was showing some display:hidden weirdness.

I know there are a bunch of chunks and other things to set up with Wayfinder here. Now that I have two cups of coffee in my system I am ready to try again. But it seems like jQuery and jQuery menus are becoming increasingly popular. I am currently reading a jQuery book. What I would love to see is an example rich guide to taking a jQuery script and a CSS styled menu list and adding the various chucks and snippet calls to make it all work with Wayfinder.

Oh yeah, and also make it "grandmother" proof...

I looked at all that. Interesting. But I am reading a book on jQuery and am using that library on other sites for nav sprite effects and for my gallery pages. I am slow digesting this stuff. So I think I should stay away from Mootools for now while I get my head wrapped around using the jQuery library.
