    Hi,

I’m one of the developers of WYMeditor and I’d like to thank David for his kind introduction.

We’re very glad to see that you like our project, and I’m coming here to announce that WYMeditor is now compatible with Gecko browsers (Firefox, SeaMonkey, ...).

A demo is available here: http://demo.wymeditor.org/

Please be aware that this is a beta, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

We would also be proud to help integrating WYMeditor in MODx.

This is very good news jfh laugh !

The man in charge about Rich text editing is Jeff (aka Bravado), who is pretty busy right now with the repository, but you should contact him via PM if he doesn’t drop by this thread... I guess he’ll be most interrested !

I find it to be a very good initiative (integrating the WYMeditor into ModX)! After I had a look at the demo of the current development version just now I must say I am impressed. I really believe it could save me some headaches in the future!

Good luck with it Bravado and jfh (and others that might be envolved in the process) and thanks in advance!

this looks really great, i hate the tag soup the other editors produce. For it to work in modx (for me at least) you must be able to customise all the controls and you must offer a file browser similar to fckeditor those are showstoppers for me.

Well...that’s the trick, ain’t it. Although it doesn’t look like integrating our file browser into WYMeditor is hard, integrating it into MODx altogether might be somewhat tricky. The problem is that current richtext editor plugins simply replace an existing textarea with a richtext editor (FCKEditor, TinyMCE, Xinha). With WYMEditor, it’s not replacing a textarea at all. Instead, WYMEditor uses a DIV to store the content of the editor. A javascript function will need to be developed that will hide the textarea to replace and keep it updated with the content of the DIV when changes are made. Pretty straightforward...but I just don’t have the time yet to really play with it. I’ll mess with it once I revisit the file browser and such. smiley

I’ve been following this post for the last few months.

Are we near a definitive answer to the RTE debate. Did XStandards resolve the issues with OSX, client install and providing additional functionality that would be essential in the FREE version.

I guess the RTE is the most widely used function that our MODx CMS customers use and as the number of sites grow there is certainly an increase in questions or having to fix the rubbish that FKX will randomly add the the XHTML mark-up.

One feature I do like in XStandards is the ability to add sub-documents and chunks of mark-up as well as the CSS handling. Personally I don’t have a preference, just need something that will make everything easy for users, is flexibly and supports XHTML 1.1 strict.

In summary, its a very key feature, its been talked about for months and it would be great to have better alternatives to FCK. I would appriciate any guidence and direction on what the best alternatives today and what we can expect tomorrow
