Besides... have anyone thought about using several "AdsDisplay" in the same template?.. like one for a top-banner, one for a skyscraper or two, to the right, and several minor ads inside the content for instance?

This would require some sort of control/setting in the template’s snippet-call, that determines which "kind-of-ad" each accomodates. And off course, the AdsManager would have to record "kind-of-ad" for each entry... which might be a good use of the unfinished "tag" attribute I guess.

Also, it would be nice, if the engine never displays the same ad twice on one page, as long as there are enough ads in the system to avoid it.

Anyway... is someone working on this?

PS:
I have just encountered a problem with .swf-files, which won’t display (neither in the AdsManager nor in the finished page output), and the outputted code looks a bit hmmm... "off"... but I’m not used to embedding swf, so it might just be me.
Does anybody know anything about this?

I also noticed, that the "Title"-attribute entered in the Manager, becomes the "alt"-attribute in the output... which seems counter intuitive to me.
Likewise, I’m having trouble with the way the actual address for the ad-link is "masked" as an internal link on the site (i.e.: MySite.com/adsmanager.inc.php?ad=2)... this is not nice to visitors wanting to click... they should have the ability to see beforehand, where they will be sent off to.

The tags feature is in development now, it will also give an ability to show different types of ads on the same page.
The same ’AdsDisplay’ snippet should not show the same ads on one same page if the number of ads in the system is enouph to fill all the ads placeholders.
’swf’ files are included using the ’swfobject’ javascript library, I think it is not very to easy to deal with ’swf’ if you are not familar with flash. ’swf’ should also have a special format of link processing to work correctly with ’adsmanager’...
As for the link format, one of the most important features of ’adsmanager’ is the statistics (the main feature for internet marketologsts, I suppouse), so each outgoing link pass the adsmanager click counter, to collect the required statistics.

I’m very happy to see that there will be more development on this module.
I was afraid that it had been laid to rest.

This is indeed good news... and I understand the need for linking to the stats-module... didn’t think of that.
On the other hand, I don’t understand why swf should be especially "difficult"... if I, as a user should do something extraordinary to make it work, just tell me in the documentation, and I’ll do it... without complaining... honestly

Anyway... do you have an approximate due-date for the update? (as it happens, I’m working on a project where this addon would be a GREAT help)

I just installed AdsManager.

When I go to the module tab and click on Adsmanager, a page of code flashes on for a second, then the site 404 error page is displayed in the frame.

Not sure whats happening.

Suggestions?

Sounds like AdBlock. Either turn it off or white list your site.

I don’t have AdBlock installed or any other. I’m using windows defender and AVG but neither of which has any ad blocking settings that I can see.

I’m testing this on local wamp server. The problem ocurrs in Chrome and IE as well.

Other ideas?

I’m getting this error when when I click on the Module after installation...

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: date_default_timezone_set() in /home/softplan/public_html/learn/assets/snippets/adsmanager/adsmanager.inc.php on line 69

My site is installed on a subdomain... this is probably something to do with it as when I try to use AdsManager in the root of a site it works fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the module. Just got a bit of feedback a few of questions.

Issues installing on WAMP - after following instructions I clicked on the AdsManager button in the module menu and I got error:

Not Found
The requested URL /mysite/manager/$link was not found on this server.

I transferred everything to my hosting (linux) and everything worked OK.

There are also a couple of typos - in the module heading  ’Graphical advertisement manegement’, and ’Form’ next to the first date field.

Questions:

1/ Can you explain what the two date fields and update button do? I currently have some test ads - when i change these dates to yesterday and tomorrow, one of the ads disappears from the list.
2/ The ads do not rotate - do i have to do anything to set this up?
3/ I need to have 3 different adverts "campaigns" in different locations around the page - all with different dimensions. Is this/will this be possible?

1. These two fields are to filter banners and to see the ’since - to’ statistics of shows, clicks and ctr.
2. May be ’rotation’ is understood in a wrong way? Please, correct me, if so. Right now, ads should change in a random order (if you do snippet call [! !]).
3. You are just in time! AdsManager 1.2 is released, with tags support, so you can easy do your task. Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems!

Hi Zixo.


When trying to add a banner I got the message:



I created the necessary directory, then it was OK - I managed to add a few banners.

I then tried to add banners with a different tag and got the same error message.


Also, unfortunately having to specify the number of banners to rotate actually within the code is not suitable for my client. Maybe it could be an idea to have this as a variable that could be set in the module front end in future versions?
