I am having an issue with downloading packages as well. Not on 1 site, but on ALL sites that I am using Revolution on. I have been troubleshooting and researching this for the last week and a half. I dont know what to do, so I am hoping that someone can help. Here is some info:

      Apache version 2.2.17 (Unix)
      PHP version 5.2.17
      MySQL version 5.0.91-community
      Operating system Linux
PDO Driver for MySQL, client library version 5.0.91

I have 2 scenerios that cover all of my problems:
      1. I installed Rev 2.0.8 traditional back in May sometime on one site - I was able to download and install all the packages through package management - now it is showing that almost all of the packages in the list have updates, when I click "Yes" I receive a dialog box with an error "package_download_err" - I have never upgraded this site at all - it was a fresh install of 2.0.8 and as I said, it worked fine up until about a week and half ago
      2. I installed Revo 2.1.0 on another site this month and could not install via package management ever - so I upgraded to 2.1.1 as soon as it was released and out of testing and was still encountering the same issue with package management - so I thought maybe something was corrupted, so I removed everything from the server, deleted the DB and did a clean install of Revo 2.1.1 and started over. Had the same problems with new install

      Additional Information:
      1. Error log states that I must have cURL enabled or have allow_url_fopen turned on - both of these are on and enabled
      2. Safe mode is off
      3. URL to package management is correct
      4. Our server has not went out and gotten any updates since April 7th (asked my host about this in case there was something blocking the communication between the server and modx)

I have been in close contact with my hosting tech and I explained the problems and also told him what I have read in some of the forum posts, so that he could check to make sure nothing is corrupted or misconfigured on the server. He confirmed that cURL is working as it should be. I have covered all of my bases. I am at a loss and do not no what to do at this point. I have noticed that several people have had this same issue with package management and not all cases were solved. Please help! I do not want to have to redo all of these sites! :’(

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on my problem.

I have the exact problem as TSONNEY.
I cannot install packages via the package management on any modx site.

This is what the error log produces:

[2011-09-02 10:14:17] (ERROR @ /connectors/workspace/packages-rest.php) MODX could not download the file. You must enable allow_url_fopen, cURL or fsockopen to use remote transport packaging.
        [2011-09-02 10:14:17] (ERROR @ /connectors/workspace/packages-rest.php) Could not download package at: http://modx.com/extras/download/?id=4e020ba6f2455475f00000da

I've attached a screen shot of the error upon clicking 'download'.

This is the response from my hosts:
If this should fall over to use curl it would not matter if allow_url_fopen is disabled, this is disabled on all servers for security. What should happen is the script uses curl insttead of this which it does not appear to be using despite it being available to use.

This is something you would need to take up with the script developers and have them look into, chances are it's a bug and the fall over is not functioning as it should.

Can anyone help with issue that appears to be affecting quite a few of us?

        Thanks

        J

Some package simply did not bundled correctly, for example revoSSL version 1.4.0-pl. The archive was revossl-1.0-pl2.transport.zip, but when extracted become revossl-1.0-pl folder.

The console log shows: "Could not find package manifest at /path_to_modx/core/packages/revossl-1.0-pl2/manifest.php".

So renaming the package to revossl-1.0-pl.transport.zip (without "2") solve the problem.

          Cheers,
