Mary is right, but only if the user actually want to learn MODx.
Fact is that some user just want keys in hand websites that just work even if it is not a lot customized.

The OP referred to him or herself as a "learning site developer" hence my view was directed to that kind of person smiley

I guess the question we should be asking is how much HTML do you know?

Can you slice a template to html? That is all you need to know in order to get a site working in MODx the rest can all be done by reading the documentation really it’s that simple.

As for wayfinder and creating navigations can be a bit confusing at first but if you know how to create menus from unordered lists you will better understand how wayfinder works if you read the wayfinder ebook

If you need help you can always post here in the forums we are all willing to help, it’s the only way the community will grow.

You need to be able to visualize a website in pieces thats pretty much how MODx treats it’s sites as pieces that are all merged to create an awesome site.

Check marys tutorials they are very easy to follow:

Have fun, never stay in doubt, always ask if you are stuck but also do some research before you post, we are MODx and we are here to help smiley

I’d be willing to create a nice (minimal) template for Revo...
With some basic support for Wayfinder, FormIt and maybe some basic TV setup.
Maybe something a little like the default Wordpress skin?

Would it be possible to create a installer for a MODx template that will also install and setup: wayfinder, FormIt and some TV and chunks?

I think a "one-click-install" skin with clean nice looks, a working dropdown nav, contact form and a TV based sidebar by default would be very useful for new users.

Would anybody be willing to help me with the installer?

The problem is not really the installer, but the portability.
If each and everyone come with their own snippet call, it would be nearly impossible to provide easy one click install a la WP.

MODx can benefit from a wrapper snippet that will allow easy portability across templates.

            Ok, I understand the prob,

What if I just create a template and a very easy step by step how-to-guide that explains how to install Wayfinder, create some TV’s and all the good stuff?

The only way to provide a nice basic template is with some extra’s installed and some TV’s and chunks created...

What would be useful is resource or components related TV’s (instead of Template related).
That would allow Templates to share automatically some template variables without having to select them manually foreach templates beforehand.

For example, with that kind of TV we can imagine an easy sidebar hook system without limiting MODx strong points whatsoever.

A template maker should be able to give default style to most of the page elements without the user having having to digg out the html code, and entering good chunk references for archive snippet, then for recent comment snippet, then etc...
Defaut chunks templates should be overridable (they are) but also automatically provided for those who don’t want to go further.
