    hello everybody,

i am new to modx - but VERY VERY satisfied. i am glad that i dont have to deal with typo3 v4 anymore. we had our own cms, cancled it, gave typo3 v4 a try (i never used it as production system) and now we are happy with modx. this is the way a cms should be made. i love it!

but back to the topic ... did anybody try to install ibrowser? is it better than the one that is coming with fckeditor (still not sure if i prefer fckeditor or tinymce)?

what steps are needed to install ibrowser?

ps: i hope i am asking the question at the right place.

    yours,

There is a difference between iBrowser/iManager and the standard Resource Browser that MODx uses within the richtext editors (FCKEditor and TinyMCE). The main difference is that iBrowser/iManager has more extended image editing capabilities. I’ve looked at both and have thought about integrating the iManager into MODx...but after digging into it I changed my mind. The problem is that the iBrowser is a bit of a resource hog and seems to take some time to load off of a remote server. Plus, there have been some recent security problems that, although have been fixed, still leave me a bit concerned. Anyways...

If you would like to use iBrowser or iManager, you can download a copy from http://www.j-cons.com. Instructions on installing it are included in a readme.txt file. For both FCKEditor and TinyMCE, you can access the plugin files in the /assets/plugins directory and you can access the plugin code via the MODx manager under Resources. It’s pretty easy to figure out what goes where when looking at the plugin code...but if you have a problem or question, feel free to reply.

I’m in the middle of some R&D for a new Resource Browser that will replace our current one. We really need more features as well as a more robust API to hook into. Hopefully we’ll have something soon. smiley

I believe it was iBrowser that also landed Eto on a Bugtraq security advisory in the last 7 days too...

Granted, it was fixed...but it still makes me wonder.

Mainly if there is anything else that should be of a concern security-wise. Being that there hasn’t been anything till now, I’m sure there isn’t anything else. Only other thing is perhaps what is the best approach to ripping out the editing capabilities to make an editor-only function. I’m thinking that iManager could be reworked as a helper app to allow others to edit a specific file. Dunno how easy it would be to do that.

Jeff, please don’t make the issue bigger than it was - somebody just abused the renaming function - if a hacker like to get in somewhere and are eager enough they most likely always find a way to do so regardless what piece of software we are talking about be it modx, etomite, joomla, mambo, etc. - how many security updates were there for modx already ?

If you like to contribute in a more constructive way to either imanager, ibrowser, or the file manager I’m working on, please do so - I invited you to help many times.
