Thanks for this link David, i certainly will have a look to this later.

Meanwhile I will try to get this running in the way I started - I hope I’ll get it soon.

I see my CommentForm in the summary view (&tpl) now but I want to have it the other way around.

      I’m going mad ! huh

Mark, it would be great if you have some minutes for me again..

Got it - at least partially..

        My snippet call:
        [[NewsListing? &startID=`39` &comments=`true` &commentschunk=`FormBlogComments`]]

Well, I simply call the Chunk in the end of my Article as follws:
        {{FormBlogComments}}

And the content of my Chunk {{FormBlogComments}} is:
        [[UserComments? &folder=`66`]]

Unfortunately when I click the Send Button on my form, nothing happens - no entry is created..

        Any Idea?

Good things come to those who wait..

            smiley

Thanks, Ryan! Exactly that was the issue.

But.. I got the following error now although the entry is created exactly.:

Notice: Undefined variable: sql in /home/www/htdocs/marcusmueller.net/cms_marcus/manager/includes/extenders/dbapi.mysql.class.inc.php on line 224

Strange - all following comments can be entered without the mentioned error.

            Hmmpf..

He brought home the bacon.. grin

I guess it works all properly now.

Finally I re-installed MODx (because I played around too much with it and I was going lost..).

I guess the problem "Undefined variable..." was just a template issue - don’t know..

              Simplest way to start running:

              1. Create a (unpublished) Folder where the News will be stored

              2. Create a new document with the snippet call:
              [[NewsListing? &startID=`<folder id with the news>` &comments=`true` &commentschunk=`FormBlogComments`

              3. Create a Chunk and name it FormBlogComments. This chunk should contain at least:
              eather:
              [!UserComments? &makefolder=`1`!]
              or:
[!UserComments? &folder=`<folder where comments are stored>`

              4. Place the Chunk at the end of the Articel or rather the news, like as follows:
              {{FormBlogComments}}

If have have plenty of time I will write a small how-to with screenshots.
And if Mark found the time to write a small example I can also translate it for the german community - if desired.

OK, i’ve been looking at this thread and the code provided for weeks, trying to work out how to make a proper blog (like the MODx blog), more so the aspect of listing the number of comments on the main blog page.

So to ask a simple question, how can I modify the blog of the default site installation (the demo site that comes with MODx), so the main blog page can list the number of comments listed for each article??

As much as this is a simple question, it may require a detailed/well-explained answer, which Im hoping someone out there can provide!!

@Mark - have you put together this example that has been mentioned throughtout thris thread? Appreciate you are probably busy with many things smiley

Well, while I’m not sure about the counting of user comments, these snippets have pretty much been deprecated in favor of Ditto instead of NewsListing, and Jot in favor of UserComments. And the NewsManager package is great!

Ok, can anyone tell me if Ditto/Jot/UserCommentsCount all work together?

If so, how is this done? I’m trying to make a simple blog/news page with comments count per blog/news item.

Also if the original snippets are deprecated, why are they still in use within the demo site included with the latest installation?!

From within the Ditto templates you can use: [!Jot?action=`count-comments` &docid=`[+id+]` !] and it will return the comment count for that blog. You don’t need UserCommentCount anymore.
