    Nice you’ve added email notification so I will now know when I’m being spammed. smiley

    Has anyone succeeded in adding Captcha functionality to this UserComments thing? Referrer Spam sucks bigtime and I’d like to avoid it. So would my clients when we launch them and I blog them for a leg up in the SEs (which usually guarantees they get added to referrer spammer lists. Oh joy.)

    If so, could you please tell me how to add it in words of one syllable for the php challenged? If not, then Scotty or whoever, could you maybe take a look and see about adding it?

    I’ve the same problem, anyone know how add captcha to usercomment?

      Hi all,

      I want to use this snippet on a site I’m working on and wondered if anybody was working on the Captcha integration?

      If not, then I’ll have a peruse myself and see if I can figure it out - just don’t want to double up any efforts that’s all. wink

      Cheers, Garry

        Garry, you will be my hero if you get this working. I’m thinking seriously of porting my WP site over to ModX and I’m getting over 100 comment spams a day. There are problems in a lot of the WP plugs designed for the purpose and I’m simply fed up with dealing with it.

        I think when you get this working this will make ModX a MUCH more attractive alternative to the other blog aps. Anyone who has a popular blog has suffered the same way. And I understand the other blog progs aren’t any much better than WP at dealing with this.

          I noticed this snippet works by posting all the comments into the content field of just one document.
          Thus if you change design (and i’m not talking CSS only) of the comment chunk it won’t affect the previous comments.
          Data and design are mixed -- not desirable for me.

          I know this is just a "simple" snippet to get the job done but it would be nice if ...

          Solution 1: Every comment could be a new document in the parent folder.
          (sort of like using newspublisher for posting a comment and Ditto for displaying the comments)

          Solution 2: Format the content of the "container" document as an XML document and append each comment as a node.
          <comments>
             <comment>
               <author></author>
               <subject></subject>
               <body></body>
             </comment>
             <comment>
               <author></author>
               <subject></subject>
               <body></body>
             </comment>
          </comments>

          Solution 3: Create a new table for the comments

          What do you think?

              I’ve made a small modification tu usercomment (based on 1.3 version) : previously, usercomment did not accept some specials caracters (like : ’) : mysql did raise an error.

              I’ve just added the mysql_escape_string() function when updating or inserting the content.

              Thomas.

                    Hi, i had problem with mysql_escape_string due magic_quotes flag set to on on my web providers servers.

                    So I’ve added magic_quotes check (get_magic_quotes_gpc()) before to parse the string with mysql_escape_string. Now it works well also if magic_quotes flag is on in the php.ini.

                    Attached the new version of UserComments

                    Bye

                      I figured this might be the best place to look for answers. I am looking to add the nice commenting email notification to new blog posts. Same as the comment notification it would be great if I could give the option to subscribe to new blog posts via email. Just curious if anyone know of a solution that might be a good fix or if anyone could point me in the right direction. Thanks!
