Let’s just revert it so that the default behavior is Ajax search being on and turning it into a boring old regular search is optional tongue

I have set the default to use the ajaxSearch, so now you only need to specify if you do not want it in the snippet call.

I have also completed the integration of Marcs (MadeMyDay) search word highlighting (http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2762.0.html). There are instructions on how to use this in the new download. You need to update all of the files for this to work correctly except for any images you use.

If you want to see this working you can see it on my site here. I have it set to only show the highlighting when you click on the more results link, so search for the words ’the and’ and then click on the more results link.

Let me know if there are any problems or questions.

      Hi Kyle,

Made the tweaks to get this working without having to configure the snippet, but did not manage to get the search results highlighting done (can you get that back in, please?). I did have the default set to be an Ajax search and lots of tweaks all around as well that caught a few minor issues.

The only thing left I’d like to do at this point is to implement "velocity" by dividing the # of search results by the max results and multiplying it by the intended duration. That way a 1-result search will appear at the same rate as an 8-result search.

Finally, I’ve changed all the words to switch away from the original "FSF" terminology to use the more appropriate "AjaxSearch/AS_" naming convention. Thanks for making such a great base to start from!

Wow, I didn’t realize you had been doing so much work on this. I will give it a good look over and add in the search highlighting.

        Thanks,
        Kyle

I understand Kyle’s having some problems with this... can anyone else take a stab at it?

Cool... I’ve committed this to the SVN respository. Would love to see a few things:

              1) the search results highlighting in there and also to see it working with
              2) it working with moo.ajax, moo.fx and prototypelite.js (might need full prototype due to the instance of $F though) ... might check out moo.dom ... minimally switch to moo.fx
              3) paged results in the ajax search implementation
              4) velocity as mentioned elsewhere so a 1-result happens at the same speed as a 10-result result
              5) removing the search instructions once you’ve searched ("Please enter a search term to begin your search.")

Thanks again Kyle for kicking this thing off... works great. smiley

Adam just committed the way to make AjaxSearch support multiple languages... thanks!

I think we should also think about putting the call to the JS stuff into a RegClient API call so that we literally don’t have to do anything but use the snippet. Can we do a test to see if the prototype.js and scriptaculous.js (or moo.fx) libraries are already in the header?

Are you talking about using the regClientStartupScript from the api? This would definatly make it easier to use the snippet. I never saw these functions in the api, they look very useful.

I will see if I can find a way to check for the js libraries.

They’re there and improved (i.e. working right) in the latest SVN builds. wink
