I have a general questions to most PHP programmer out there.

Whenever you guys did mysql table editing administration page, did you guys always code it one by one?
I have to admit that I’m a lazy programmer, so I always try the most efficient way to do it. I found the type of phpMyEdit, MySQL TableEditor, or dbPerceptor is really helpful, but I always found their limitation that causes me not to use them.

So do you have any better idea on how to approach this problem? I mean most of database administration is almost the same, and I want a better way, which I can define the template freely, and still able to generate the admin page fast. The most hassle part is on displaying the list of data and able to paginate them and etc.

I’ve been using ASP .Net for building several application, and I’m still amaze on some of the advanced features such as Repeater, which we can define the template of it freely, without outputing any X/HTML code at all. If you have any other idea, please post reply in here.

Looking forward to hear y’all responses!!!

Well, I can say from work on NewsLetter (still working on it) that MODx offers some really great API calls for doing paginated tables of SQL data. Check out the source code of the manage modules page and you will see what I mean....

As to having the forms and sql generated automagically for admin pages please someone figure out how to do this! Its a killer to do by hand. After just 4 or 5 forms on NewsLetter I am bored stiff!

Ryan -> I checked the class, and it’s great, even though I’m not to for sure, whther I can change the layout of the table or not. But I should give it a try!

Mark -> Which manage module that you mean? QuicEdit? Would like to know more.

I’m still looking forward to hear y’all feedback.

Btw, anybody know how to check manager access and making sure that they have the right permission for the document group and manager group at that document? I want to make a front-end interface for some of my system, which will be using snippet. I want this snippet to be able to determine whether the user login as manager and has the right access to that specific document, so that I can decide whetehr to display the admin interface or not.

The other snippet such as newspublisher works in conjunction for web user, which I prefer to have manager user to be able to do it.

Any suggestion of where to look for it will be really appreciated.

Hello Wendy. There will be a snippet that does exactly what you’re wanting that is shipping with 0.9.1 called "MemberCheck" ... this week. smiley

All it does is check logged in web user groups and sets a placeholder or returns a chunk based on membership in one of potentiallly many groups. I’ve used it on a site and it works great!

              This is awesome.

Do you know when this is going to be done? I can’t wait to see the next upcoming release! Great work guys...
I’ve talked to several people, and the next upcoming release looks promising. Can’t wait to see it in action.

Many thanks to all the core developer and members.

                  Hahaha....

I guess I’m asking the wrong question then.
Anyway, that’s the kind of excitement that I have. So are we going to stick with the meeting plan that we have or what? Don’t you think that it’s kind of to late to start sending out the invitation, if we are going to meet before christmas? lol...

So email me or message me, when you guys decide to meet. I don’t want to be left alone knowing nothing about MODx. FYI, I introduced MODx to my company right now, and they are going to start using it. So if you need my participation, I will have a lot of time to spent for MODx, because my boss allow it.

One more question, I saw a snippet for calendar that allow document to be published and displayed as a calendar events. It’s a great snippet, but do you guys have any snippet that doesn’t use the document as the container, instead it will use a single mysql table, and event will be stored based on document id, and wherever the snippet being called, it will just fetched the event being ta on that specific document id? I’m working on this kind of snippet right now. If you guys already have some snippets going around the forums that looks almost like this one, I would prefer not to re-invent the wheel.

                  Thanks

Heemm... Now I’m officialy confuse..!!! LOL...

Anyway, to help directing this conversation to the right direction, I just found a better way to help lazy programmer such as me to built something from scratch...

Do you guys know about POG?
                      http://www.phpobjectgenerator.com

That’s the link, it is able to generate a class to build object for your data on your DB. All you need is generate the code, change the code being generated to include certain functions that you want, and start using it.

                      Hope that helps.
Ehmm.. if someone know a better solution, the discussion is still open.
