[snippets] Problem encoding character in rss syndication

Hi,

I would like to dsiplay lot of feed from other website . I’m using NewsParser2 form etomite ...
My problem is that I display as weel english website and french website ... So encoding is sometimes ISO like mine and sometim it’s utf8 .. and special caracter like é è or à goes as @§? ...

Have you got a tips wich permit me to display feed in different encoding ?

Sorry, it’s my fault, I speak of NewsParser2 to Dragon.

We are going to install quickly NewsParserX.

But the question is always open : How display rss feed in utf8 format when your website is in ISO

I’m not sure NewsParserX will solve this. This does need to be addressed however. Please see this article I found in regards to these kinds of issues. I’ll see if I can’t work out a solution in NewsParserX based on this...

I didn’t mean NewsParserX would solve it, I just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same snippet before we tried to solve this.

@aour: the best way to avoid problems is to run your website encoded in utf-8. I don’t see why ISO is still in use, we should all run the same charset way easier to manage, especially for multi-lingual content !

@david: We want to parse different website and some are in UTF8 and other in ISO. The future will be better if everybody use UTF8. But you have different UTF8. NO FUTURE!!


I try to use the php instruction : mb_detect_encoding in the snippet to check, and use utf8_decode.

But I cannot use this instruction :

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mb_detect_encoding() in /home/forumsig/public_html/portail/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(691) : eval()’d code on line 535

hey, great ! NewsParserX is better than newsparser2 ! syndication looks like better ...

still have problem for my encoding caracter unfortunatly ... thanks for your help

But why str_replace work and not mb_detect_encoding()?

As described in the article I posted, the problem with the mbstring functions is they are an optional add-on to PHP that most hosts unfortunately refuse to install for some reason or another (I’d have to research why)...
