They are totally different snippets and behave differently. DocMan has rudimentary checkin/checkout features and stores the files’ metadata in the database; files must be uploaded via the form and are stored with a name based on the insert value of the metadata +.dat. If your site has safe_mode turned on, it’s quite likely you won’t be able to use DocMan, since you probably won’t be able to upload the files with a PHP script to a directory outside your web space.

I haven’t put DocMan in the repository because I intend to work on it and make a number of improvements. Someday. When I have the time and energy rolleyes

For a simple download capability, I use FileDownload, which just scans a given folder and lists the files it finds there using a chunk template for display. I’m not sure how it would behave with files external to your web root if safe_mode is turned on.

FileCabinet is something else altogether; I haven’t looked at it so I’m not able to say how it differs from the above two snippets.

        Limbo.

I just moved to a new "virtual private" server, and am completely rebuilding my site on 0.9.5; I got tired of fighting with the bleeding edge (0.9.7). I want to put up all the snippets/modules I’ve done, then work on them. Or get somebody else to work on them...

Thanks for the quick reply... I was curious, in fact, this kind of feature sure could warrant a bounty !

Huge work I sure can understand how it can be hard to maintain and keep developping this... I can’t help coding but maybe I can try to hook a client enough to cough up some money, depending on the projects I’ll be working in the upcoming months...
