Here is some of it. I’m not at a point where I know how to parse this information.

It’s having trouble connecting to your database server..

If this is a recent problem, perhaps your database connection is offline, or the password has change.d

Check the config files (core/config/config.inc.php) to see if the database connection details (and also server: localhost) are still valid for your setup.

What is the procedure for resetting the manager password in Revo?

The tables are so different from Evo...

            prefix_users table I guess.

Never tried, but the password field seems like the right one. tongue Currently it’s simply md5, but 2.1 will have better algorithms so that’ll change.

As the author of the original post you mentioned, NO, it is only under EXTREME circumstances that you have to go through a direct database edit to reset the password. It should only be done if you don’t have access to a site (as in the case where a dev abandoned the site and did not share the passwords with you) or in cases where the email address was never configured, or where the email delivery is not working.

If you never set up your email address, then of course the system can’t send you a new password because you’ll never get it. It’s unfortunately common with webservers that outgoing emails are either disabled (i.e. sendmail is disabled) or where email sending is crippled to a point as to be useless... in my experience it’s not uncommon to run into trouble there. But this has virtually nothing to do with MODx. I’ve had to hack into Expression Engine, Drupal, and WordPress sites for exactly the same reasons. If you want to evaluate MODx, I recommend getting a Bluehost account and using the SimpleScripts installer. It’s literally a one-click install. PM if you want to talk shop on strengths and weaknesses of various systems, but I got nothing but praise for MODx... these dudes are working hard, the forums are vibrant, and the underlying architecture is not only sensible, but f@!%ing elegant. Expression Engine is the only other system that’s in the same league in my opinion.

I did have my email set up and verified in the DB however something random happened where it was no longer able to connect to my DB. I just uninstalled and reinstalled it. I really had no idea if it was something I was doing wrong, ModX or as it turns out, something with my DB or server or something.

Well, it’s certainly possible that MODx had a glitch, but the things you’ve described I’ve witnessed on virtually every flavor of web app. *shrugs*
