Yeah, I’m aware of that plugin but it serves a slightly different purpose, although I must admit I haven’t looked at the latest changes.
It seems like it could be easily doable for the main content but to get any additional tvs and stuff it may get a bit crazy.
It would be interesting if content-history could have a function to select a ’live’ version and a ’development’ version of the content, currently there is only a live version available to edit.
Just to keep you informed.. After a few failed attempts I’m on the way with a plugin that will enable staging of the content field without using a TV at all. Using the mootools library included with modx I’m ’simply’ capturing the content field and swapping it with the staging content which is stored in a ’staging’ database table. When the content is saved I swap the content over again to the original, intercept the staging content and update the staging table. When a simple editor edits a document he/she will not notice anything different in the work flow, except that changes are not being made live.
This bit works,... mostly. I do have a problem to solve with previewing the staging content. At this moment that’s not possible.
My idea is to bind "publishing" permissions to modx roles and I see three different permissions. Those editors who can edit content but not publish, those who can edit and publish their own documents and ’administrators’ (or senior editors if you prefer) who can publish work of others.
I won’t have time to work on it for the rest of the week but I’ll do my best to pick it up again after that.
Oh and yes,.. once everything works it could easily be extended to other fields.
