[buggy snippet] Front End Document Manager (FDM) v0.1b

I wonder if one of the Forum Admins could consider creating a subforum for FDM. While it is in development and no other development subforums exist the thread is getting longer and longer and it might make it easier for the forward movement of FDM if it had its own SF.

Sorry not trying to be a pain, just curious if there is a possibility of uploading a file into a TV with FDM ..

Just to backtrack a little...

Could you explain the final output or at least your concept process?

I want to know why a TV or if you could add a snippet (or plugin) to use a TV to grab a file in a particular location after it has been updated? It may also be possible to extend the FdmDocument class to handle this.

Our end goal is a form you fill out with:
a job number
a job name
a client name
project description
project thumbnail
project pdf

then I’m hoping to use a sweet ajax search to search it all easily

Attaching the pdf is the tricky part..

This form is the process which helps out but what is the end result? Who is going to see the output? Is it public? Where front or back end?

Would you just want to end up with a link to the saved pdf in the page content somewhere?

You certainly can post to a TV but a file upload is not as straight forward as this.

You may need to wait for someone more adept at file handling than I. There is a FileUpload snippet in the Repo and I know that you can use files with eForm so I don’t see why it can’t be done.

I think that this is one of the cornerstone snippets for MODx, it has great potential (is great ’as is’ but could be even better). NewsPublisher is nice but has it’s limitations compared to FDM.

Clients and or us... it’s more of a digital archive I guess, right now we have large binders with hard copy archives, bleh.

I think I have a solution, We are going to sue some sort of ajax file upload.. , then insert the end file path to a TV for the download link.

Yes the end product would be a full " job description" with a link to the pdf and a thumbnail, etc.. it should be sweet when it’s done.

I have not decided on any ajax file uploader.. any ideas?

hmm crap, turns out I’m too much of a dunce to figure this out.

What has me thinking this should be "doable" is the fact that eform can take files for email attachment right? eform is the core of FDM if I’m not mistaken. If anyone can help with this in theory or code it would be helpful
