I’ve done some testing and determined that SimplePie is incapable of parsing the xml feeds provided by Audioscrobbler because they are in a non-standard format.
So anyway, it looks like coding this snippet wasn’t done entirely in vain.
I may improve the easy scrobbler class by storing the cached xml in an intermediate file format for slightly faster parsing (similar to what SimplePie does).
Ideally, it seems, a feed parser should be able to generate a hierarchical data structure regardless of the feed’s content or structure. I’d like to see a snippet run different chunks based on element hierarchy with placeholders set to the values of each xml entity. I’m planning on writing a class/snippet like this when I have some extra time.
