Ping and Trackback Snippets. Do They Exist?

Thanks for the translation efforts. I’ll take a look and likely include this in my Blogging Expansion Set (not official name) that will include the Ping, Trackbacks, and XML-RPC for remote edit/updates w/such things as desktop apps. Basically the full set of elements missing from MODx to use it as a blog on the same level as WordPress or Movable Type.

Yes, I have. They are great. I have raved about them in a different post (don’t remember which one). The trackback solution rocks and tkfm’s translation is right on. This really should get an English support board as well since it is one of those hidden gems in my opinion.

Ping is really very easy though as long as the onDocPublished works you should be able to send a ping to technorati or pingomatic or whatever services you need.

Ultimately this set: xml-rpc, ping and trackback should be bundled together as a ditto enhancement package that would make any MODx based blog killer.

Using xml-rpc with MODx would also enable people to manage their documents using Scribefire or other remote blog editor such as MarsEdit or any MTAPI based blog. The limitation would be that you wouldn’t be able to use tvs as the standard Blog API’s don’t have the capacity for any more fields.

Was this taken forward? And excuse my ignorance, but where is xmlrpc.php?

I haven’t taken this further for 2 reasons:

• Trackbacks and Pingbacks are mostly vehicles of spam now.
• I don’t have time to develop it.

Pings can be done without XML-RPC since it is just a simple file request.

XML-RPC is a php class. I’d really love to allow the ability to post to a MODx blog using the WP or Metaweblog api and XMLRPC.
