How to show tags?

can be used in a snippet to dynamically determine which symbol to use.

if i want to use tags to display pics/movies etc in a gallery, which is the easiest way to set that up?
basicly i have the tags -> movies, pics, funny and sad
prefferebly i would want to set the tags dynamicly through a db.

I set up a blog for my wife [ http://sometwittery.com ] using the tagging method described in that post.  The tags are listed at the bottom of each article (by the comments count), separated by comma,  and there are links to the various categories on the right side.  I set it up as a checkbox TV so when she is writing her blog entries, she can click as many of the tags as she wants and they are all applied.

Any chance you could let us know how the month archive on the blog is implemented? Its been something I’ve been planning to get round to for a while.

I’m just starting down the tagging path and would like to implement it into a site.

In particular, does anyone have any examples or suggestions on free tagging? Most seem to deal with a pre-determined tag list. The original post mentioned the repository, which I haven’t posted to, but the announcement for it mentioned that it supported free tagging, but that is about the only reference I can find, and no tutorial seems to have been developed for it yet.

sidenote: Drupal actually has a great AJAX tagging integration with auto-complete, which I’m sure helps eliminate multiple similar but not identical tags being created.

Anyway, just trying to figure out where to begin?

There is a wiki doc called Tagged Blogging with Ditto under "HOWTO".
Follow that, but instead of checkbox, just use text. you can keep the widget as comma delimited list.

Thanks, I’ll try that. I read the How To already (which appears excellent ), just hadn’t thought how to implement straight text.

Okay, unless I’m missing something, this partially gets us there.

Of course the issue with free tagging is you have no idea what tags will be created, so there is an issue when it comes to the category pages. They really need to be created dynamically, don’t they? Such as being able to create tags on the fly and then have the category pages created on the fly as well.

EDIT - Okay, I think I just peed my pants! I just came across some posts about the Ditto beta and the tags support with linking. Some realy quick experimentations seems to make it exactly what I was needing... the only touchy issue seems to be making sure not to have a space after the comma between tags.

You have to love something that continues to address your needs before you realize you have them, when everytime you think you’ve come up with something that MODx can’t handle, it’s sitting there like man’s best friend, ready and waiting for the next trick!
