Welcome Blubird, glad to have a new coder onboard, and we’ll sure like to hear about this project of yours smiley

@aguen : while I agree about Typo3’s power, I think the flexibility part is nowhere near what MODx has to offer, you shall see tongue
I even predict you’ll like it so much you might not need Typo3 even for bigger projects, that is if you don’t need workflow, revisionning or multi-lingual capabilities which will come with 1.0. I guess by then, you’ll be a convert grin

Anyway, I hope you enjoy MODx as much as I (we all) do !

        And ?

What did you think of MODx and did you decide to go the MODx way ? How does it compare to those systems ?

In my opinion MODx completely blew away the competition.

          1) Installation - 5 mins max
          2) Transfering Sites to new servers - 10 mins max
          3) Community Support
          4) MODx Team very helpfull
          5) Templates - How many Joomla/Mambo sites basically look the same - I can use CSS or Tables in MODx
          6) Ease of use for end users - Joomla and Mambo to me were very confusing and the end users would not have been able to use them to add content.
          7) Snippets/Chunks/TVs - Very easy to understand and implement
          8) The fact that is is PHP, MySQL, and Apache and AJAX
          9) Opensource
          10) I had no webdesign experience (tiny bit of programming experience) and we will soon have two corporate sites up (currently one) and they are better than our old outsourced site.

We currently use for web applications a custom-built PHP5->Smarty OOP framework, with modded Prototype/Scriptaculous libraries integrated into that framework (to allow Smarty->AJAX communication). It works incredibly well for developing full-scale applications quickly, but for a CMS I was looking for something more user-friendly.

Stumbled upon MODx about 2-3 months ago, loved what I saw - the flexibility to develop your own system above the core is wonderful.

We won’t be using MODx for our applications, since it simply cannot do what we’re trying to do; however, for our main site available to the public, we’re currently integrating it. It’s 800-900+ pages, so it should be done within 6 months or so. MODx is currently working incredibly well at this.

I’ve mostly been using Joomla in the past, simply because it’s quite easy to use (the login panel at the admin page is even comprehendable for non-technical users, this is as well something MODx could improve at imho), which I still sometimes do for pages that will be maintained by other (less techy) people.
Besides that I’m only using MODx, simply because you can customize basically everything (l love all the templating), there are loads of plugins and the community support is outstanding.

Our corporate (both are now up) sites are:

                  www.vanmeterindustrial.com
                  www.wernermn.com

I would like to thank Adam Crownoble for top drop down menu code and the email that he sent me explaining how to use it.

The other day while figuring I would have to use static HTML to build my new site and reading an article about creating boxes with expandable content and rounded corners I found my way here. All I can say is MODx is from the heavens.

I thank everyone who has worked on this project. Since designing with CSS is the only way to go I will only build with MODx from today on. I am a convert to never look back again. Oh, how I thank you because I was so not looking forward to learning how to manipulate word press for use on dynamic sites. THANK YOU!!! You all have saved me hundreds of hours of struggling with other CMS applications like Joomla.

Come to think of it I only know of one CMS that is worthy MODx. LOVE IT!!! Now I cannot wait to see what you guys do with SHOPx (Good luck Susan with that)!

Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!
