A long time I used typo3... but since they kicked out the template engine templavoila it was the hell to implement an own html template. I felt back to GetSimple, which is still a good decision for small sites. After that I tried out wordpress, contao and joomla but didn't like them.
At least I tried a lot with modx and still feel very happy with it.

Actually my malcious webdeveloper is trying to get me to move to MODx. Currently on WordPress which is eminently UNSUITED for my websites. Almost nothing in WordPress is usable in original state for the websites. The one site I'll discuss here [coinsandhistory.com] is really 95% hand coded html, some javascript and a WordPress front end which actually works very poorly.

In addition my two websites have been hacked 3 times, I guess thru the plugins. I have 20 character complex pwds so brute force methods shouldn't work. The hacking is a pain but not much seems to be damaged. Anyhow she wanted me to move to ModX to deter hacking.

Since nothing in WordPress works anyhow MODx might be good but I'm deterred by the cost and using YET ANOTHER CMS.

I think he's referring to the cost in time.

Regarding the cost to migrate from Wordpress to MODX maybe these would help save some time

While it may be trivial, I was referring to the $20/month for the cloud based MODx. This adds up particularly for just informational websites which don't generate any revenue. MODx can also be installed on my ISP's site but their charges are $250/hr. However then I'd have to worry about all the updates & such. With WordPress it seems that if you miss the lastest monthly update, your site goes bad.

There's nothing to say that you have to use MODX cloud. You can quite easily stick MODX on any server that meets the requirements. Shared standard hosting is usually pretty cheap. I charge my clients £10 a month which is about $12.

Some of these are quite reasonable: https://bobsguides.com/modx-friendly-hosts.html

My current ISP, LuxSci, which is hosting my websites, will also support the MODx installation I've been told. Of course it won't have the auto updates like the cloud but I should be able to do those myself periodically.

I'm just hoping that if a month goes by and I don't do an update then my site won't get hacked like on WordPress. I can handle 2 updates a year.

However it appears that for complex websites Modx is better than WordPress? Wordpress plugins are very numerous and it takes hundreds of them to achieve required functionality for my website. Well maybe not hundreds but around 30 and it's a fight with the plugin writers to get them to add required functionalities to the plugins.
