After installing MODx Evo I’ve noticed that we had to disable the ’php_flag zlib.output_compression’ for the admin welcome and configuration panels to work.
As we like to provide quick, optimised sites for our clients, is there a way round this issue so that we have opermisation enabled?
Yep. Same thing here on MAMP; tried it with both PHP 448 and 526. It gives me the error message when opening the Configuration; as far as I can tell that’s the only thing that causes it.
I added the line
php_flag zlib.output_compression Off
to the .htaccess file in the /manager directory, but that doesn’t explain why it’s doing it or actually solve the problem, although it does work.
It does not happen in RC3.

A fix has been put into SVN and will be made available in Evo 1.0.1 - however, if you can’t wait that long, you could manually apply the patch (changeset here)
Garry,
Is that the correct link? I clicked on it and only saw a CSS file?
Here is the file that was updated, you can manually download and overwrite the existing from your Evo 1.0 download...
manager/actions/mutate_settings.dynamic.php

Also, here is the initial thread related to this issue:
