    Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I thought I’ll let you know my little problem and solution. (Just spend the whole evening on it so.... sad )

The site I was working on is hosted on a remote server with Apache, and using friendly urls didn’t give me any problems so far.

Now I installed a fresh modx install, configured the friendly urls, and disabled cache on the created documents, and suddenly, I got a:
"connection to remote host lost" in Konqi, and FF didn’t say anything, but neither displayed the page.
Enabling the cache for those pages, and voila, friendly urls were working again.

It appeared that the zlib.output_compression in .htaccess was the problem, I suppose it’s not supported on the remote server.

    Edit:
It looks like the problem isn’t solved _completely_, Konqi still gives errors, but FF works now.
    Any suggestion are very welcome!

    Greetz,

    Remon

Wish I could help but none of my servers support zlib.output_compression.

      Anyone else?

I always comment those lines out on general principles. Nice when it works, a real mess when it doesn’t.

          Hi,

I’m still having problems with friendly aliases and modx 0.9.

Friendly aliases worked before, and do work with modx 0.9 on my own server.

However, if I install the demo site on a paid server, I get a warning in Konqueror:
          "connection to host ... lost"

This warning is displayed when the pages are generated from the database, when they are displayed from the cache, no warnings show up.
In Firefox, it works and get no warnings, but I suppose FF just ignores it.
The strange thing is that, although I get this warning the page is still shown....

Friendly aliases did work on this remote server, but somehow with modx 0.9, it seems something has changed which causes this error, probably due the way that server is configured (running Apache) but still, it worked before!

Any suggestions, pointer were to look are very welcome....
(I’m not seeing anything usefull in the logs :-( )

          Best,

          Remon

            Remon,

First of all, did you change the name of BOTH ht.access files to .htaccess (there is one in the root and one in the manager directory)/

Second, if MODx is installed in the root of your server try replacing the root .htaccess with this:
            # Rewrite directives here for SEF (Search Engine Friendly) URLs

            RewriteEngine On
            RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
            RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

            # If your MODx installation is in a subdirectory, change the following line to match the physical
            # path to the "root" of the site as follows:
            # RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /path/to/subdirectory/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

            RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

            Hope this helps,
            Mark

              Hi,

Thanks for trying to help me out, but the problem has become much weirder actually.

I turned of friendly aliases and removed the .htaccess file, but the problem was still there!

In Firefox I get no errors (most of the time) and in Konqueror I get a "connection to host lost" for non cached pages... :-(

I send a support email to my hosting provider since I don’t have these problems on a standard Debian install, so it almost certainly has to do with the configuration of the hosting provider...

              Thanks,

              Remon

              P.S.
I don’t know if there are much changes in modx 0.9, but I don’t have a modx 3.2 package, so I can’t test if that one (still) works...

Have you tried taking a look at a phpinfo dump? Just a file named info.php (or whatever you prefer), with just this in it.

                  <?php
                  phpinfo();
                  ?>

Put it on your server and go there in your browser.
Don’t leave it on your server after you’ve looked at it. It’s not a good idea to give anybody who comes along this kind of information about your system.

The phpinfo() is also there in the Manager->View System info smiley

I allready looked there, but I can’t see anything strange or unusual.

The hosting provider responded that they don’t have any problems, and that there install is also plain Debian, without strange setups.....

                    AARGGHHH

Oh well, this is how it goes sometimes sad

Thanks for the help nevertheless smiley
