Manager login issues? (solved, well, sort of...)

I have a new MODx 1.0.3 Evo site on a ipage.com host.

I am getting strange behavior with the Manager login. When I enter the Username and Password it always resets the Manager form with the fields blank. If I then click on the Forgot Your Password link it will then take me to the back end of the site! I see the full system.

I have no idea why this is happening. I created an extra admin username and password and the login to the Manager is still flunky?

I am getting a ’GD and/or Zip PHP extensions not found’ message in the Configuration tab though? Also, my gallery page is not showing the MaxiGallery "Manage Pictures" button?

I might try a tech support session with the host to see if they can spot the problem...

iPage is using PHP 5.2.12

The Quick Manager pane that usually appears at the top of a logged in session is also missing?

I am wondering if its best to dump this host and start all over again?

Be sure to try clearing your browser cache and cookies first. Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier.

Do you see anything useful in the MODx error log or the server error log?

Someone else may have more to say about that particular MySQL version.

I tried clearing the cache and there is nothing obvious in the error logs.

Just about every "issue" experienced by MODx users have usually been noticed by others.

But this is a strange issue that I have never experienced with MODx before.

I can log in via the Manager but here is what happens:

* I enter the username and password
* I click on the Login button
* Instead of taking me to the MODx back end the username and password fields refresh with empty boxes
* I can repeat this with the same results
* If I then click on the "forgot your password" link it will suddenly take me to the MODx back end and all is pretty much normal

But the MaxiGallery and QuickEdit functions are not working?

I tried a session with the host support chat system but the guy could not figure it out. Supposedly there is a support ticket tracking this down...

I don’t know if it’s any consolation, but I’ve seen this exact login issue several times on the forums.

I haven’t been able to find a solution (other than the ones in the thread in the link above). Mrhaw is our premier forum searcher. Maybe he will have better luck.

I will do some more digging...

The first couple of posts discuss the causes and a possible solution but I am not sure what it is they actually did here.

I think the best solution for me is to ask my friend (I am doing this project as a favor) to get a refund from his iPage host and start all over again with a proven host that works with MODx installs.

Right now the manager login, Quick Manager and MaxiGallery functions are not working properly. I built this site locally using MAMP first and everything worked perfectly then.

I have contacted the host tech support but real solutions seem to be lacking. My "ticket" to more advanced support investigations have not come through...

Update: I called iPage tech support on the phone and got through instantly. The advice I got was to wait until the "second level" support guys address the support ticket. This might take 24 - 48 hours. I guess I will wait and see if they can find anything...

I received a message on the support ticket. They said the problem was a "scripting issue" and that I should reinstall the application. This I did. I created a new database and reinstalled 1.0.3 and then tried to login to the Manager.

The problem is still there. The username and password boxes will go empty and if I click on the forgotten password link it will then open up to the Manager???

Sort of chasing my tail here...
