We have corrected the version.inc.php for the files at http://modxcms.com/download/#ga and you no longer need to alter any files you can simply download a new copy. If you have installs already you can simply upload the version.inc.php and any new installs should use the download file.

When looking at the reference link above it now reports the correct version. I donwloaded the .tar.gz file and reviewed the version.inc.php file and it has been corrected as well so it appears there is no need to perform the edit on version.inc.php.
