We’ve recently added a new feature to MODx Revolution 2.0.0 in SVN, and it’s something we call Form Customization. It’s based loosely on the ideas from ManagerManager, the excellent plugin for MODx Evolution.

Form Customization allows you to customize fields and tabs on any manager page using MODExt, Revolution’s ExtJS implementation. Yes, this means nearly every page that has form fields. Resource pages, Snippet pages, Plugins, Contexts, etc. You can change titles, hide fields, hide tabs, hide TVs, etc.

You can view the in-progress documentation here: http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Form+Customization

It also expands ManagerManager’s "hide when Resource has Template x" and creates a feature called "Constraints". Constraints allow you to specify specific, field-and-value constraints for Rules. Want your Rule to only apply to Resource pages with template ID 4? No problem. How about Resource pages with menutitle "boo"? Or Snippet pages with the Category of 5? All can be done with Constraints.

We plan to enhance it as versions go on - including adding new Rules like ’templateVisible’, ’menuItemVisible’, ’menuItemTitle’, ’topMenuItemVisible’, etc. If you have suggestions for Rules, please post them here.

Note: at this time, this does not apply to windows or context menus. We’re working on that part.

    Thanks,
    The MODx Team

Can you forsee distributing form customizations in Packages?

Ideally, yes. I don’t think it’d be too hard; we’ll probably end up doing a tutorial on how to do such.

The package build script, however, would probably have to add Setup Options if it wanted to auto-apply rules to User Group(s), since it wont know those User Group IDs in advance; it’d have to determine them by user selection pre-install, and then dupe the Rules for each user group. Still not hard to do, though.

I’m updating from SVN right now, and I’ll post back with my thoughts.\

EDIT: Okay, so I found Form Customization, but I see no way to add new rules, and the table goes off the right side of the page. :\ Perhaps this isn’t actually working yet?

There isn’t an "Add" button at the top of the grid?

                Can you post a SS?

Sure thing. Here it is in Firefox. I cleared the browser cache and the MODx site cache after updating.

Oh, there it is. My fault. It was just so small and everything that I didn’t see it. I guess I was expecting something like the Save/Cancel buttons. I’m not sure why, since everything else in MODx tables is like this. Anyway, it still goes off the page on the right, but otherwise I guess it works.
