When you guys are saying about disabling Firebug, do you mean entirely, or just disabling the resource-heavy stuff like Console/Script/Net?

Also, it is to be noted that ’suspending’ firebug doesn’t completely turn it off. It still affects performance.

Yes, totally disabling it from the Addons windows, and restarting Firefox. tongue

I’ve tried the manager UI in Firefox 3.5 (with no Firebug) and, while it’s faster than FF3, it still has a sluggish feel. It looks like a lot of the content on various pages is generated by client-side javascript that uses additional HTTP post requests (I counted 10) to get content from the server after the initial page load. As these requests execute, I see some "please wait/page loading" boxes flash around the page.

Expanding and collapsing sections when editing a page is slow and has a weird visual effect where the input elements all slide to the right as the section collapses. For contrast, expanding and collapsing the sections in System Settings is quite snappy.

Some select lists are populated only when you click on them. It’s hard to understand why this is done when the list contains just a few elements (e.g. the content-type list). Lazy loading can be a useful technique but I don’t think it is in this instance.

Just be sure that you are using Beta product, so please don’t expect amazing things from this version as yet in terms of UI.

Other than that, keep posting your feedbacks and suggestions. smiley

And hopefully code to make it better, too!

BTW, Adblock with many rules slowing down more than firebug (for me).

Interesting...didn’t know that...I’ll try turning it off and see if it helps..

Just to add my 2p to this thread, I’ve just upgraded to the Firefox 3.5 preview and tried my MODx installation.

Firefox loads the dashboard in a little over a second, compared to 4-5 seconds on both Firefox 3.0 and IE 8. Other data pages (such as the system configuration) load in 2 seconds, compared to 5 in Firefox 3/IE 8.

This is on an 8MB ADSL line to a Solaris 10/Apache 2.2.11/PHP 5.2.9 web server and Solaris 10/MySQL 5.1.32 database server.

Although MODx Revolution 2.0.0-beta-1 Manager runs quite well in Safari 4 it is still slower to use compared to the MODx 0.9.6.3 Manager. Here some of my thoughts on the Revo-Manager:

                      • Is it really necessary to load over 800 kb of JavaScript in 32 files for "a little AJAX and few effects"?
                      • I think it would be faster to load short lists like "Uses template" or "Editor to use" directly without AJAX. I know its only a second until the list is loaded with AJAX but when I build up a site I click all this short lists a thousand times.
                      • It would be great to be able to open documents or content elements with a middle-click in browser tabs (at the moment some kind of JavaScript magic is preventing the middle-click to work). In this way it would be easy and very fast to open and edit a couple of documents in browser tabs.
                      • It would be nice to be able to copy text out of the document overview page like the pagetitle or longtitle (does not work at least in Safari 4 and Firefox 3).
                      • Somehow I am not able to edit the content of template variables (does not work at least in Safari 4 and Firefox 3). If I click into the textarea nothing happens.

I hope this feedback is useful for the developers working on the manager smiley
