Hi I have tried to install Modx Revolution on a number of different systems now, but each time I get a blank screen after running the install.

I have seen steps to correct this like making sure cache and other directories are writeable, but this does not fix my problem.

BTW I am not using the advanced version.

I am on a linux server using PHP 5.2.6

I have tried all of these:

If you get a blank screen, verify these steps:

           1. Make sure that your setup/templates/_compiled directory is writable. If it doesn't exist, create it and make it writable.
           2. Make sure the directories "/[root]", "/manager", "/connectors", "/core/packages","/core/cache","/core/export", and "setup/templates/_compiled" are writable.
(root will be the actual directory you are installing to.)
           3. Create a blank file "/core/config/config.inc.php" and make it writable.
           4. Try downloading the regular Revolution-alpha download instead of the advanced.
           5. Post a message in the Revolution forum regarding your issue. State your server setup and installation info, and we'll try and help you find a solution.

and none of them make any difference. Step 4. is pointless as I do not have the advanced version.

And the same under mac osx 10.4 with MAMP running php5.2.6

I don’t know any more, how do you find out the apache version?

Are the sites all installed from the same download? If so, you may just have had a bad transfer.

No they were all on different machines downloading from the main modx website.

I have tried setting those directories to writable 755 and 777 but doesnt change anything unfortunately

Is there any more information I can give you to help?

Just to clarify, is the blank screen at the install step, or is it when you try to access the manager login screen?

It is both. I.e when I run the setup after inputing the Mysql information it runs through a check list, it passes everything to I click install. After that I get a blank screen. If i try to go to the manager I also get a blank screen.

This is the same on all the systems i have tried it on.

OK, you’re getting an error, but not being informed on screen, you need to check your server error logs to see if they can shed any light.

There was a bug that caused a recursive logging error that would cause this but I’m not sure when it was fixed in relation to what you are installing. It was fixed on this ticket, http://svn.modxcms.com/jira/browse/MODX-604 on 19/01/09, if your install package is dated is before this you may be hitting it. If so you make sure your /cache/logs directory is writable by your web server.

Other than that it you may need to use the latest SVN to install from.

Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
