I made a snippet to output debugging, would it make sense to create system settings for setDebug, setLogLevel, and setLogTarget (or would it be debug, logLevel, and logTarget if added as settings)? How do you end up with dropdowns in the system settings? It would be cool to toggle debugging, select log levels, and choose HTML or a custom file for the log.

Well, in some cases it needs to be set before the settings are loaded; kind of a catch 22, but I’ve debated whether or not to have it set in the config file rather than set manually in the various index.php files.

This is a (mt) issue! I ditched them for site5 and my sites benchmark PHP/MySQL up to 79% faster.
//I was on the grid but I did test a separate container with no luck. (mt) keept blaming MODx EVO for the issues....

@mrhaw, what service did you have one (mt) and what service did you upgrade to on site5?

i’m currently on a mediatemple (gs) service, the $20 one. been considering switching. obviously you recommend site5 for modx sites?

I was on the (gs) grid service with a bunch of smaller MODx websites and I was satisfied for years. Even as the (gs) reported
serious issues and a lot of maintenance was going on.
          http://www.newlocalmedia.com/blog/107-host-review-media-temple.html

But then I too started getting 100+ db connection errors per month and extremely high latency. I tried using a separate MySQL container.
It was nice for a week, then it went back to the same ole errors and slowness. And when they had security issues they ran a weird front-end security
scan on my site!¿ (I bot-trapped my own host IP...) I also experienced this http://bit.ly/fXLN1Z sad
...I asked if he got an answer: http://twitter.com/dhollander/status/22775334415896576 !!! shocked

Every attempt discussing the latency matter would return in a blame game. They asked me to modify MODx Evo’s config and core files. >:(

          So I let @amdbuilder, site5 CEO @BenAtSite5 + the ad (see footer)
convince me! grin Now I’m on the shared cloud hosting
and haven’t seen one single db connection error. I’m super pleased with the siteadmin tools and backend.
PHP and MySQL runs 79% faster for me here. But I never tried caching the database on the grid as @opengeek suggested.

//After tweeting about this I received a very professional reply: http://twitter.com/mediatemple/status/22835227474788353
Thank You (mt) for years of super awesome hosting! wink Hopefully we all get a better 2011 cool

//February 2011: When Site5 got into huge problems and I experienced extreme downtime, they did not only kept to their guarantee but compensated me above it! cool

I think you’ll have a great experience with Site5. They proactively just updated (or will very soon) to the latest stable PHP/MySQL versions. They’re doing a wonderful job in my book.

I’ll second that motion. Site5 is doing a great job in my book, they have my servers scheduled for upgrade to dovecot on Monday, they are doing a mass upgrade at the moment, and have some great future plans!

I can’t recommend them enough after MODxpo, all the traffic and videos on my site without a single complaint! Ben and Co are very responsive and proactive on things. It’s almost too good to be true!

Having a site that doesn’t force your visitors to look at each page longer, thus ruining your average visitor length in your Google Analytics? tongue
