    Hello Everyone,

    I’ve been a fan of MODx for a long time. I recently upgraded to Revolution 2.2.2-pl and it’s very, very slow for me. Not only the Manager but front-end pages take longer to load than before I installed MODx...up to a few seconds - and these are very content light pages with no Javascript.

    Is there any way to beef up performance or do some performance testing? I’ve read that the EXTjs stuff makes the manager slow, which I can understand although it’s still a little painful but could this effect the performance of the front-end site so much?

    Thanks,
    - Jess

      Can you place this in your template, preferably before </body> so we can see how fast the pages are retrieved from the database?

      <!--MySQL: [^qt^], [^q^] request(s), PHP: [^p^], total: [^t^], document retrieved from [^s^]. -->

      After adding that code to your template, clear your cache, reload the page and paste your source code here so we can examine the load time.

        Thank you. Sure thing, I did this. Here are the results from a few pages:

        <!--MySQL: 0.0000 s, 0 request(s), PHP: 0.8806 s, total: 0.8806 s, document retrieved from database. -->
        <!--MySQL: 0.0000 s, 0 request(s), PHP: 0.6185 s, total: 0.6185 s, document retrieved from database. -->
        <!--MySQL: 0.0000 s, 0 request(s), PHP: 0.7746 s, total: 0.7746 s, document retrieved from database. -->
        <!--MySQL: 0.0000 s, 0 request(s), PHP: 1.1155 s, total: 1.1155 s, document retrieved from database. -->
        <!--MySQL: 0.0000 s, 0 request(s), PHP: 1.0289 s, total: 1.0289 s, document retrieved from database. -->

          Hey Jess, I don’t see a particular problem with the retrieval speed results you posted above.

          I checked your site running FF 4 beta 7 and Google Chrome and it seemed to load pretty fast for me.

          What browser are you testing with?

          Your page is well designed. It isn’t using any JavaScript and its not crowded.

          Other than your connection speed and browser, I don’t see any reason you shouldn’t be able to view it faster.

          Except for optimizing this image http://www. morriskitchen.com /assets/images/ginger-syrup.jpg which currently weighs 90.32 KB, my only recommendation is to clear your browsing cache, run a speed test and use a more capable browser if you’re not already.

          MODx 2.0.4-pl2 isn’t that bad in terms of loading speed. In fact the speed has been improved a great deal since Revo’s first reelase and It shouldn’t really give you that hard a time.

          Let us know what you get after these steps

            Hi Jess,

            Could you:

            Note: If you’re posting about a bug, please state all of your Environment information in your post: Version of MODx, Traditional or Advanced distribution (for Revo), Server OS, Server Version, PHP Version, MySQL Version (client and server), is pdo_mysql installed, your Browser type and version, if you are using any opcode caching such as eAccelerator, APC, winCache, xCache, etc; any relevant errors in core/cache/logs/error.log, and any other environment data we should know. We can’t help you without that information.

            We’ll need that before we can help you further.

              Yeah, it’s weird sometimes it’s ok - sometimes not. For example I just did it again and got this:

              <!--MySQL: 0.0000 s, 0 request(s), PHP: 27.2386 s, total: 27.2386 s, document retrieved from cache. -->

              I’ll look into those other technical details you are asking about. I use Media Temple as a host since their service is great I don’t usually question it but I will look.

                    Folks,

                    We *really* cannot help any of you without your server specifications. Your performance times are abnormal and are probably due to PDO misconfigurations. So, please give us:

                    Note: If you’re posting about a bug, please state all of your Environment information in your post: Version of MODx, Traditional or Advanced distribution (for Revo), Server OS, Server Version, PHP Version, MySQL Version (client and server), is pdo_mysql installed, your Browser type and version, if you are using any opcode caching such as eAccelerator, APC, winCache, xCache, etc; any relevant errors in core/cache/logs/error.log, and any other environment data we should know. We can’t help you without that information.

                    Otherwise we really can’t help you, nor consider any of your claims as actual bugs or issues.

                      There’s been lots of anecdotal evidence that MT Grid Server accounts have serious issues, sporadically.
