BTW, Is there a place to look for 0.9.7 versions of the standard snippets (wayfinder, ditto, MaxiGallery, etc.) or do I need to download the 0.9.6 versions from the repository and use those?
Well, not yet and yes, some of that too.
Err, what I mean is, I need to get a temporary download site up for the transport packages of the snippets we have already converted, then build and upload the ones that are there and ready. I’ll try and get that done this afternoon, so you have some working examples without having to build packages from SVN and/or translate from unconverted ones in the current repository, manually installing each piece (though you certainly can still do that). And I need to get the add-on development guide started with details on how to develop, test, build, and translate/refactor add-ons from previous releases in general (along with lots of other documentation, sigh; anyone understand the code enough yet to feel confident to assist in this effort?).
BTW, the actual SVN repository containing the "official" components that will be contributed/maintained by the MODx team is at
http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/modx-components/ and each component has it’s own trunk/tags/branches structure. Eventually we will have a process for incubating/reviewing new "official" component projects for adoption into this repository, but I expect that with the new packaging/distribution system, 3rd-parties will be hosting their own component repositories, and we’ll probably set-up a hosted "unofficial" repository where developers can continue to submit packaged or un-packaged add-ons without having to host it or go through the formalities of official project incubation.

I think the class is now located here:
core/model/modx/mail/phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php
core/model/modx/mail/modmail.class.php
Correct, and their is a MODx API now that abstracts the use of PHPMailer, as well. If you use this centralized API, you will eventually be able to switch out the mailer back-end you use as additional implementations are coded. However, this initial code needs some TLC and lots of testing before I would consider it ready, so feel free to continue using phpmailer directly for now, or get ready to help test and complete the PHPMailer implementation of the new modMail class.
