I have the same problem on IE8 and IE7 on PC. Chrome, Firefox works as they should.

If I delete the .htaccess file I have no more problems.

Don´t understand what can be the reason for this. Also checked various security settings on IE with no success.

Hi there, I’ll try changing the .htaccess and see what happens, but I’ve tried accessing the particular URL I’m having a problem on my pc on another pc running Windows 7 with McAfee. Also as I am able to access the manager of a different site on the same server via my own computer which is a subdomain without any problem.

Will try disabling firewall to see if that makes a difference too.

Any other experiences or suggestions? undecided

      Cheers

Ok, may be a little closer to solving this problem. I changed by .htaccess which I was using for friendly URLs back to ht.access and lo and behold I could access the manager via IE8 without any problems.

That has at least narrowed the problem. Next thing will be the solution? Is it that there is a conflict somewhere? Because obviously I would prefer to have friendly URLs.

        Suggestions please? wink

Try to reset all settings to default in IE8 and disable add-ons, maybe you can compare the installed add-ons with a working browser.

Add-ons slow down the performance of IE8
Don't believe anything you read on the net. Except this.

Nope, doesn’t work. The only way it seems to work with IE8 is to have the file as ht.access. It is only for using the Manager, the site works fine in IE8 and earlier.

There are clearly issues with IE8 and .htaccess files as I’ve been trawling around to see if I can find the answer (there appears to some issues with Joomla and .htaccess using IE8)... but I am a mere mortal and so far cannot come up with the solution.

That´s not the problem I think. I have this on different PCs with IE 7 to 8. There must be a header information, redirection or somewhat else IE can not handle. As I´ve written this problem only appears if htaccess is activated for friendly urls.

Thanks for last pointer - I had used a blank template for one of my documents and there was no header information! I’ve corrected this and now it all works fine....

So easy to miss the obvious!! embarrassed

On to the next learning curve....

                  Unbelievable.
It seems to work for me too. What I have done is to give the template used by the resource defined for site_start an <html> tag and IE works as it should. No idea why but after a couple of hours I´m glad to found this out.
