Can't Login

I just tried your adress lonestarenterprises.com, it load this:



And the same adress with the manager load the manager login as well.

I don’t really understand what is your issue here. You can’t access the manager interface anymore?
Have you try to reinstall MODx Revolution (without deleting your template/snippets path, just overwriting default setting for clean install)?

Yes, that pathetic page is showing the content without any layout design because the template I made showed up with the actual [*#content*] and [*pagetitle*] placeholders (not the actual content or the pagetitle I was expecting those placeholders to produce).

The template I want to show up is in the manager, and I can’t login.

The old page at http://www.lonestarenterprises.com/index.html would be better than what modx is throwing up there.

I have renamed the .htaccess so that index.html would load first, but it doesn’t. Maybe I should rename ht.access? Done.

OK, renamed index.php, now index.html will load.

OK, that’s solved. Now I just need to get logged in so that I can actually manage the system and then the first thing I’ll do is to apply the pg1.html template to the initial home page.

But I can’t show my client how to use the new system unless someone can tell me what db entries I need to delete or what files I need to delete to get rid of the active directory thing that messed this all up in the first place.

Gotta go write an email to the client explaining things...

Don’t forget to update the MODx tags. It seems that you’re using the old Evo tags.

MODx Revolution is a totally different system than EVO...
I don’t think you should go for Revo at this stage, Build your site
in EVO (that works for you?) Then get familiar with Revo on a local webserver like
xampp. http://4up2date.info/modx-revolution.html

I can’t disagree with mrhaw statement. Evo’s not dead, far from it.

It might be too late though if you’ve already built the entire website with Revo.

Is that from the wiki? The wiki that won’t load that page?

Geez, I bought the book and now everything is different and the only documentation in the world for MODx revolution won’t load?

Can someone just tell me what they are, PLEASE? That’s been the biggest problem, NO DAMN DOCUMENTATION. Could someone PLEASE put a static copy somehwere, somewhere I can copy and save it to my HD?

The documentation was accessible the moment i copied & paste the link back here...

They (the MODx team) have big issues with a JAVA component (Crowd) and their documentation system (Confluence).

You’re really out of luck.

MODx Revolution is very very young (1 month - it’s a baby) so it’s not really surprising that they’re no books on it yet.

The team did say several times that Revolution is a complete rewrite of MODx and therefore not compatible with Evo. That’s explaining why they keep developping Evo along side Revo.

As stated above, Modx Evolution’s not going anywhere. You should really fall back to it while Revolution’s mature, or even stick to Evo if you feel confortable with it and don’t need Revo’s feature.

Your site was working previously on Evo? Did you try to upgrade from Evo to Revo ?

I have my template done. I have a fresh install of MODx revolution. It took me half a night to upload the complete pl distribution. I actually have uploaded all those files twice now (same server), deleting the old files takes quite a long time, too.

I have a book for evolution. The revolution wiki is NEVER ACCESSIBLE (NEVER-EVER-EVER-EVER).

I have to upload evolution after deleting revolution. Or I upload the Setup directory for Revolution and start over, right?

But revolution has absolutely no damn documentation at all.

And here I wanted to embrace Revolution and be a part of a new age... but revolution hates My guts and Evolution is sweet and sexy and reliable and dependable and never has any damn issues.

But how long will Evolution be supported? When will I actually see some documentation about Revolution? Ever?

This just sucks.

No, I did not upgrade from Evo to Revo, this is a new install, new website. I’m just trying to get something going and I have been trying over and over...

It’s very frustrating. I thought Revo was the way to go.

So now I have to delete Revo (this takes quite some time) just so that I can install Evolution.

OK, this is the customer’s site, they need reliability. I was still hoping to make that meeting, but 1/2 hour away, gotta go call them.

just a word about having a local copy of websites, sincerely, you should...

it allowed me to solve the same problem as yours in 15mn locally and then reup the site...
you never know what could happen to your hoster and if you work online, everything can be lost in a breeze...
working with virtualhosts, you have exactly the same path locally and online, you just have to change the config file once the first time you upload it

and most of all, you can work, make mistakes (i make a lot... ) without any bad consequences for you website
