Can't Login

Hello All...

I finally was able to install MODx Revolution after multiple attempts. There had always been a problem connecting to the database, previously. I think that my database host had about 4 6’s in its string and I only typed in 3, or something.

It installed without a hitch, so I was pleasantly surprised. I downloaded a bunch of (and installed a lot of those), modules that I used to use the last time I made a MODx site.

I made my first home page using the same info from the index.html file that MODx refuses to allow to load (and I do not like that).

I tried to make my first template and put it in a directory within templates, but it doesn’t show the [*#content*] and [*pagetitle*] or any of the other placeholders I am expecting to see, it is actually showing the placeholders for the content and pagetitle as "[*#content*]" and "[*pagetitle*]".

I came here to solve the issue and the wiki is down. OK, no problem, I’ll solve this later. Only now it’s later and I can’t login to http://www.lonestarenterprises.com/manager/ - instead, I get this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function ldap_connect() in /home/content/a/l/o/alonestarent/html/core/components/activedirectory/model/activedirectory/modactivedirectorydriver.class.php on line 157

There is a captcha image on the login page, now. That’s not good. I wasn’t planning on using the captcha there, at all. So I am angry that it is showing up at all. Just because I downloaded and installed something doesn’t mean I expect to see it live. In MODx Evolution this stuff was available (downloaded and installed) but not active. NOTHING should activate itself.

My browser is FireFox 3.6.8 and I have no idea what opcode caching is, but I don’t use any accelerators such as eAccelerator, APC, winCache, xCache, etc...

I know that I am using the right login ID and password. But I am sure that the captcha is what is disallowing my login. Heck, I want to use the captcha to prevent spam in my contact form, not to thwart me from logging in.

*sigh*

Please tell me what I can do to get rid of the Captcha. I still have FTP access. And I am scheduled to meet with the client tomorrow.

I just noticed...

There is:
"login_mathstring_message"
And then an image, which is captcha text called "login_captcha_message" that shows a word.
Then:
captcha_mathstring_code:

...but the image isn’t giving a math problem, it is merely a word with some code snippets behind it to obscure the image for bots.

After my successful download and install of the captcha, I got no error messages, but I did not configure anything, either. In fact, I did not configure any of my downloaded installs. I don’t even think that I installed active directory, just downloaded it, but not sure.

I don’t know if this helps or not, but just noticed it.

Shaun answered me the same question yesterday actually, it comes from Active Directory, if you need it and have installes modActiveDirectory, you’ll need ldap installed on your hosting what is clearly not the case.

To get back in, edit the file: core/cache/config.cache.php
change


to



Log in and *immediately* go to System -> System Settings and change the use_captcha setting to No.

If that doesn’t work for you, go to the MODx DB in PhpMyAdmin. In the modx_system_settings table, change the value for use_captcha from 1 to 0.

Then go to the core/cache directory and delete the config.cache.php file before logging in.

I didn’t have a or in the /core/cache/config.cache.php file.

I’m browsing the modx_system_settings table in phpMyAdmin, now. I’m not finding "use_captcha", but I have found "captcha.enabled" and it is set to 1. I’ll change this to a 0 (as I have not yet set or allowed any dang thing to use captcha).

Deleting core/cache/config.cache.php... done.

Reloading the login page...

Not good. I’m supposed to meet with this client in less than 5.5 hours. The template I built didn’t display the content, so I went back to the default no-design template because it is showing the content of the home page. But there is no design at all there.

If I could at least show the site’s layout design template as a simple default loaded HTML page displaying their contact information, I’d look a whole lot better as a web designer. Instead, I’m locked out of the CMS which won’t allow a default HTML page to show.

Can I at least enable the default loading of index.html pages so that they at least have something to show for the site’s dang home page? Why anyone would overwrite an existing static website while the system is upgraded to run MODx is beyond me. There is no excuse to ruin someone’s existing website when the upgrafe can be done behind the scenes.

I mean, C’mon, you really think no one wants to ever use a static page ever again?

I need a solution, guys. I need the CMS running right, with login, or I need to serve-up the default index.html files AS IT SHOULD BE, if they are there.

well again, i’ve just had the same problem as yours and there aren’t many solutions...
- if you need ldap, just try to have your hoster accepting to install ldap on your server
- if you don’t need ldap, just uninstall modxActiveDirectory on the local website, empty the cache and then reload the db and core/connectors/manager on the distant server. Everything will work fine (this morning live experience...)

now, coming to static web pages, if they are on your site root, just erase the MODx index page and change/erase/rename MODx htaccess file, you’ll be able to put anything you want on your server

furthermore, in a working MODx installation, nothing is easier than using static pages in your website... the problem not being this for the moment for you but having something to show you client

I have no idea what ldap is or why I would need it. I don’t see it in my phpinfo() file at all. If I need it for captcha, I don’t understand why since captcha is working fine on Evolution. But I get, progress. I’ll get a different captcha. But I would think the installer would have protected me from this crap.

Sounds great, but I can’t login. You mean to uninstall it through ftp? How? Got a link to some instructions on how to do this?

The last time I renamed .htaccess nothing changed. I think this is a php instruction? MODx Evolution handled this correctly, it would serve up whatever was there. index.html would load as the default first, if no index.html the index.php would load, as expected.

Instead, all the while when installing, MODx Revolution is throwing up a sinful "Site Unavailable" message that alarms the owners and scares away visitors. I had a site there and I have directories coming to review it and they are denying my submission, so some programmers just don’t understand "Mission Critical" and are off in la-la land.

Yes, I can load the page if I call it individually, but the fact remains that http://www.lonestarenterprises.com showed an alarming alert when installing, when trying to work out what was wrong with the install, and now shows a pathetic unformatted text file and the whole time the old page was just fine (and renaming .htaccess did NOT change that situation, so what the hell does????).

You are right, not that I have something to show, that the damn site shows what it is supposed to and has been showing all along... the problem is that I need a decent domain name address default page and I cannot login to take care of that, so I need to get that fixed or at the least I need to have index.html take priority over index.php

All right, that sounds mad. I’m not as mad as that sounds. But I am frustrated. How do you uninstall modxActiveDirectory on the local website if you can’t log into manager? Do you have a link to share?

wow, i hadn’t understood that you couldn’t even log in to your local website, i thought it was just on the distant server.

on a local website, assuming you’re working with wamp or an equivalent xamp/mamp (if you’re on a Mac) it’s far easier to solve the problem !

all those local webserver have a php extension menu (for example on a wamp sever, you click on the working wamp icone on your taskbar, then you choose PHP -> PHP extensions, here you can see that ldap is unchecked, just check it and you’ll be able to log again, that’s yesterday live experience )

this being done you’ll be able to uninstall activedirectory and then re-upload your newly working db and website

I can’t login to the website. I do not run wamp or any local copy. I have never needed to before and I guess if I think I need Linux or BSD at home, I’ll install it on an old computer (many laying around). Actually, I’ve always intended to, but never have the time.

Wow, you run a copy of your site on your local system? I did that once, but there were too many issues, the two systems would upgrade at different times, and the lack of syncronization because of the two different databases, not to mention different file paths, different systems.
