OK this is pushing me to the limits of my php now.
If I start playing with this file : modx.class.php
as per the results in my previous post, and make the change below the commented out line here:

Then it returns : 1 1
Which is boolean and makes sense so that looks like that is working. So then to the next bit from the post above, making the following changes:
public function getParser() {
echo ’hello’;
return $this->getService(’parser’, ’modParser’);
}
returns: hellohellohellohellohellohellohellohellohellohellohello
so clearly we haven’t hung yet!
However:

public function getParser() {
# return $this->getService(’parser’, ’modParser’);
$temp = $this->getService(’parser’, ’modParser’);
echo $temp;
}
returns nothing
function getService I can’t find referenced anywhere in the model/modx directory so it isn’t a function.
I am about at a loss and really don’t know which way to turn from here.
I hate hacking the code but I really have no idea why nothing is working and no errors are being thrown when it passes every test on setup and throws now apache errors and no errors to the page and has enough memory etc.
