Tried with 775 (just core/packages) as well as 775 on core/packages and all sub files, both ways gave me the exact same errors and log files as before. (edit had put 755 in post when I meant 775)

Wait a minute - are you installing the ’advanced’ distribution?

If so, you need to be installing the ’traditional’ (or non-advanced’) distribution.

This is the traditional installation not the advanced one.

I had a similar problem with a different host. Found PHP Safe_Mode was still turned on. After I turned it off, the white screen went away.

            I had the same problem!

I realised after a while that I was getting a blank page because I hadn’t yet created any content!

I logged into ’my_modx_site/manage’, clicked on the ’Homepage’, typed some gobbledygook into the ’Homepage’, clicked save and then viewed my site again. Surprise surprise I didn’t have a blank page any more!

            I hope this helps.

the fact that MODX installation gives a blank screen when PHP is running in Safe Mode should be mentioned in the installation-documentation. And a check should be made in the installation. Because this is confusing.
It took me a while before I finally went to the Apache logfile and saw the Safe_Mode errors there.
