Our actual public time is 5-6 months... smiley it will take little more time.

Other stats on google and site score are really awesome !

...and for poting stuff, it is true.. not everyone takes part into this but we must gather them into it with attraction, respect, helping and politeness.. and I hope we are doing well right now.

So, don’t worry about it wink... we still not started actual Marketing, but will soon... just waiting for a tattoo wink

That’s true of most communities... the thing with MODx is you have to register to download. I did not even notice this as far as I am concerned, but this has been brought to my attention many times by french would-be-users.

I guess this leads to an even bigger share of "zero post users" wink

Now, for me the true measure of this community’s success right now is not the number of users, and even if the number of post even if it partly indicates vitality, it’s not everything.

The dedication of "core users" who will come back every day or at least many times a week and post, answer support questions and contribute in some way is the real key, to me, at this stage. This undoubtedly derives from the dev’s team implication & friendlyness...

I couldn’t put my finger on it, but as Ryan recently said about Textpattern’s forum "there’s a good vibe there" grin

Yes that registering to download is a big problem; I would not have bothered with it. Any time I try something new, unless I really have an urgent reason to do so, I’ll just move on if I have to register to download the main application.

                Thanks Zi for the reference..

Now I’ll have something "punchy" to answer this particular question tongue

I know; that’s why I haven’t said much on the subject. But I would bet we’re losing at least half of our potential user base on this, especially a lot of OSS developers who won’t like the restriction.

Opinions on what "free" means can vary quite widely, the "free as in speech" vs "free as in beer" divisions. My view is "free from annoying hassles" (although beer is outside my budget these days).

But it’s not my program, and Ryan is well within his rights to deal with it as he chooses.

I would like to offer my view on download CMS restriction.

Many people that I come across don’t even bother with the CMS if the site require to register before they even can take a look. Especially most people just want to see what a particular CMS is like before they even want to invest their time into whatever there.

Unless they know what they want on a particular CMS then they would not mine to register.

I for one would not register at any site to get a chance to take a look at their CMS.

But chanh, that’s why we link to opensourcecms.com for a demo so people can get their feet wet. wink

I’ll probably change this restriction in the near future in all seriousness though.
