Making a Better Download Repository

could there be a search function? I often need a snippet where I do know the name of but would not alway’s know in what catecory it is.

You can use the Repository A-Z, this allows for all the resources to be listed in alphabetical order.

A search would be nice, but it would ideally need to have TV searching as well so there’s a bit of work to do on that front.

Hmm.. when editing a resource and writing something on the "updates" text area, there will be a "Updates" section at the end of the item specific page where the information can be seen clearly.. this is ok. However, when viewing the resource main page, the updates information is at the top of the page below the resource name without any heading.. is there a reason why it can’t be at the bottom in it’s own section like in item specific page? I think it looks confusing when it’s at the top, especially without any heading..

There *is* a search, although not the ideal search. The Repo pages show up in the main MODx site search, so you can use that to search for a snippet by title.

Agree. I think it should be between Description and Instructions - so it goes What it does, What’s new in the latest version (& download link), What to do with it.

Actually, no, it allows for the resources starting with a particular letter to be viewed. There’s no "Next", which is what would be needed to be a "listing in alphabetical order". But that’s probably splitting hairs. Could we have the A-Z links at the bottom of each page too? And can you make the Back to top link go back to the top of the page one is on, rather than the main page?

View All Resources *does* list in alphabetical order, despite the fact that if you expand the "Change Results" bit, "Date Added" is listed as the default sorting.

I would quite like an easy link to "All by Date Added" view, as this is one of the views I use most frequently. It is always strange clicking "Change Results", *not changing any settings*, hitting submit and getting the view I want.

I think that the "Latest Items" above the top 5 should link to the full sorted-by-date list, and similarly the "Most Downloaded" title above that top 5 should link to the sort-by-Download Count list.

So. On the whole, the Repo is of course excellent - I’m just suggesting a lot of tweaks that will make it even easier to use.

Ah yes, with "ALL", that crosses the fine hairline. But the link you gave earlier is an index of things that are filed alphabetically. The distinction is subtle, but I was in the mood to make it.

Indeed. It is the sorting method *selected* in the form by default, due to the fact that it is the first item. As this is not the sorting method *used* in the results by default, this is counter-intuitive - I expect to have to change the method from the one selected. I would therefore expect Alpha to be the first item in the dropdown.

Looks like if someone starts a <B> in their description and it is truncated before the </B>, everything afterwards on the Repo home page goes bold. I’ve edited the offending description, but it may be worthwhile stripping tags out of the descriptions before truncation.

When editing a Extra, there is no "Updates" box to fill.. Also, I did not notice to select the "Additional Resource Type" at first and when posting the form, it said that need to fill out the fields marked in red, but none of the fields were marked in red (i.e. none had red background)

When opening this page: http://modxcms.com/Subsites-Subdomains-825.html in IE it send me the zip file without the extention and it called download. When i add .zip to it I can open it and see the plugin code.

In firefox it works fine

This is a known bug in FileDownload snippet, the fix is in filedownload thread, but the snippet has not been updated in modx site yet.. there is also some other issues that needs fixing (download count corruption, etc).

There’s a bug where the latest version of a resource is in fact the release before the latest. It happens to my Jot resource: it shows Beta 7 as the latest version and under Previous release you can see Beta 8.

Also maybe it’s better to just list the latest resource in the repository and not list them all. If you click on a tag like Comments for example you get 8 listings of Jot (Beta 1-8).
